Job DescriptionSummary
Develop and maintain robust, cost-effective machining processes and CNC programs that meet quality requirements. Program machine tool probes for part inspection. Create data collection program interface (parser file) for Quantum SPC. Develop and maintain probe programs for machine accuracy and calibration. Specify equipment, tooling and supplies. Order tooling and maintain minimum inventory to meet production needs. Interact with scheduling to minimize set-up and maximize through-put. Provide technical support and guidance for hourly employees. Participate in cost reduction activities.
Essential Functions
- Performs duties consistent with established safety and quality procedures, rules and standards.
- Develop technical requirements for robust machining processes.
- Measure and understand statistical process control (SPC) on cut parts.
- Interpret blueprints or sketches, CNC program printouts and process sheets to determine and set-up machining as required.
- Understand CNC control console to set proper feed rates, speed and depth of cut for cutting various geometries.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as electronic gauging equipment depth gauges, and calipers, micrometers in setting-up required tolerances.
- Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling.
- Meet / improve quality standards to reduce rework / nonconformance.
- Meet / improve performance standards for increased productivity.
- Shop floor resource for machining questions, concerns and process improvements
- Yearly ring calibrate probes to ensure conforming inspection equipment.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Provides constant feedback and input into process improvement within the department.
- Communicates honestly, accurately, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills.
- Is flexible with time and schedule to assure product availability to customer or company as circumstances warrant.
- Performs other miscellaneous functions within the department as needed.
- Performs all work in accordance with the PCC Code of Conduct.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- At least five years' manufacturing experience, preferably in a metals-based industry.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes and practices.
- Experience developing programs for CNC equipment.
Competencies
- Knowledge of shop floor safety requirements.
- CNC control experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Mastercam software preferred.
- Working knowledge of dimensional tools, such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Basic Math Skills (Algebra, Trigonometry).
- Understanding of dimensional inspection requirements.
- Must have attention for detail and responsible for the quality of the material he/she handles.
- Strong work ethic.
- Positive attitude and a team player.
- Willingness to learn & detail oriented.
- Must be willing to work shifts and overtime as needed, including 12-hour shifts.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands - Must be able to frequently remain in a stationary position with repetitive hand motions. Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office area to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a computer, copy machine, calculator and computer printer. Must be able to travel by ground or air transportation.
May be required to occasionally reach overhead, bend/stoop, push/pull, reach, twist, stand, walk, perform repetitive hand movements including the use of hand tools, operate mobile equipment including forklifts and overhead cranes, and lift and/or carry up to 35lbs. Must have visual acuity to identify and inspect product.
