Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:

The School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a part-time, non-tenure track position as a Course Instructor/Clinical supervisor in the Department of Audiology.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Provide instruction for a total of three to twenty (3-20) hours per week (depending on your course/contract).
  2. Supervision of two (2) student clinicians per hour. Occasionally a clinical instructor may be assigned three (3) student clinicians per hour.
  3. Provide each student clinician with a minimum of twenty-five percent (25%) direct supervision or more to meet the needs of the particular student clinician and/or client.
  4. Complete semester supervision log to document supervision time for accreditation requirements by the last day of the semester.
  5. Provide written feedback towards clinical reports and observational assignments.

Clinical appointments are made upon the recommendation of the department faculty where appropriate to an academic program. The clinical appointment is non-tenure track. A prefix such as 'clinical', or suffix such as 'of Practice', or other appropriate prefix or suffix, will be designated for these appointments, full-time or part-time (Faculty Handbook 7.1.4). A Clinical appointment utilizes specialized skills and experience in a certain professional field and is mainly responsible for teaching related duties and at times Service and Research aspects if expected by the School.

Part-time faculty are appointed as needed by each unit and considered as less than full time annual appointment as specified by each unit. Part time is determined by the unit based on a comparison to year-long appointments. Time of service on a part-time appointment may not accrue to time for appointment with tenure (Faculty Handbook 7.1.6).

All non-tenure-track faculty members collaborate in fulfilling the University's mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities. These may include the following activities:

  1. Design and conduct educational programs and courses of instruction in accordance with the policies of the University.
  2. Actively participate in the comprehensive planning or review of the development and quality improvement of the educational programs and courses of study, assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of such programs and courses, and to make recommendations to the Deans and Provost concerning the educational mission, programs, and policies of the University.

  4. Recommend student admissions standards, evaluate student admissions procedures, assess student academic progress, and recommend student candidates for earned degrees.
  5. Participate in the selection, evaluation, and advancement of faculty and academic administrators.

The faculty member may consider any matter in connection with the effectiveness and quality of the educational program or the professional welfare of the faculty, may make recommendations to the department chair, academic dean or provost concerning any policies, programs, or procedures which affect the educational program or faculty welfare.
