Overview:

Supports the overall fraud strategy across multiple products within an area of specialty using analytics and tracking tools to identify and prevent fraudulent activity. Completes systems analysis to design and develop anti-fraud rule policies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Query and analyze large data sets to find root cause exploits and/or pattern of fraudulent activity.
  2. Implement moderate to complex rule policy changes with multiple attributes from internal recommendations and/or self-identified risk to thwart recent fraud scam attempts.
  3. Ensure efficient and timely resolution of issues arising from rule testing and/or implementation to ensure expected performance.
  4. Support and advise the product lines in addressing daily problems and/or issues of any scope. Participate in integrated testing as required to test and resolve identified issues.
  5. Ensure any fraud loss is within financial plans for reporting.
  6. Facilitate and run projects from proposal through post implementation to ensure execution and adherence to deadlines.
  7. Monitor functional specifications and change requests to ensure project stays within scope and meets regulatory requirements ensuring adherence to business line and product requirements.
  8. Participate in design discussions. Write functional specifications for application changes and fraud rule policies. Review and revise specifications with products and business lines ensuring consensus.
  9. Coordinate application implementation and post-implementation processes, identifying impact.
  10. Complete system testing activities as needed including User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  11. Provide consultation services to Bank departments on basic to intricate functions of supported applications including system capabilities, operational procedures, and research strategies review.
  12. Research, recommend and stay current on new technology, policies or processes to benefit the organization and improve deficiencies.
  13. Analyze reports of fraud, claims, and loss. Identify fraud scheme, determine next steps and recommend feasible solution to reduce loss and mitigate newest fraud trends.
  14. Identify fraud patterns and schemes impacting the financial services industry. Make recommendations to senior managers for changes to fraud detection system parameters to optimize fraud detection based on current fraud trends in the industry and those impacting the Bank’s portfolios.
  15. Serve as mentor to less experienced staff by assisting in application training, research analysis and project methodology consultation.
  16. Complete day-to-day support activities for fraud policy, rule systems and special projects.
  17. Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  18. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  19. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  20. Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years’ business analytics and/or developer experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years' higher education and/or relevant work experience, inclusive of a minimum of 2 years of business analytics and/or developer experience.
  2. Knowledge or experience utilizing fraud applications and/or systems.
  3. Excellent problem-solving skills to inform issue resolution.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  1. Experience working with application development software and hardware platforms.
  2. Proven understanding of fraud applications with sound knowledge of interfacing/integrated applications.
  3. Understanding risk management practices and/or procedures.
  4. Ability to recognize and adhere to project milestones and delivery dates.

Physical Requirements:

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $74,286.06 - $123,810.11 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
