DATA PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST (as part of the B&IS CLIENT DATA STRATEGY team)

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Principal Data Scientist works closely with business stakeholders to understand their goals and determine how data can be used to achieve those goals. The Principal Data Scientist will lead and mentor in the design of data analytic and data science processes, create algorithms and predictive models to extract the data the business needs, and help analyze the data and share insights with peers.

What you will do

  • Leads and directs data analysis and data mining techniques by acquiring, processing, cleansing, integrating, exploring, and investigating data sets using algorithms and potential models.
  • Leads and applies data science techniques, such as data profiling, data modeling, and root cause analysis, working closely with senior team members.
  • Measures and improves results and presents final results to stakeholders. Makes adjustments based on feedback and repeats processes to solve for new problems.
  • Documents the analytic and data work products, logic, and methods.
  • Accurately defines and executes "curated data layers" including transformations, aggregations, and other data manipulations to meet requirements.
  • Develops standards, templates, and procedures for the department.
  • Manages the technical solutions of large programs & projects of significant complexity and risk.
  • Maintains an enterprise-level view across the 'client data' landscape.
  • Conducts ongoing analysis and makes recommended improvements to detective data controls, data extract processes, and practices.
  • Leverages knowledge and skills with a variety of query tools (e.g., SQL, SnowFlake, R, Python, Business Objects), analytic techniques, tools, platforms, to analyze large quantities of data from multiple sources to design, create, and maintain dashboards, business plans, forecasts, projections, presentations, models, algorithms, and statistical and financial analyses.

Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years of statistical analysis, computer science, programming, data storytelling.
  • Minimum 7 years of data technologies such as Snowflake and advanced SQL writing capabilities.
  • Minimum 7 years of advanced R, SQL, and Python coding.
  • Minimum 3 years of reporting experience (Tableau, Business Objects, etc.).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a technical specialist role.
  • Minimum 5 years in the financial services industry.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Advanced experience with common data science toolkits and visualization tools.
  • Advanced statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Advanced initiative, organization, and time management skills.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Advanced SQL writing skills.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal relations skills, ability to effectively collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence, research and resolve questions and problems, request manager input, and keep manager informed.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Lead multiple tasks and projects; lead and guide stakeholders to solve new problems.
  • Lead key initiatives on data mining and machine learning.
  • Provide input to technology initiatives and roadmaps on emerging technologies in data mining, AI, etc.

Compensation

Starting base salary: $122,535 - $208,715 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
