The Manager of Professional Development will be responsible for the strategic design and implementation of professional development and training programs for the Litigation (LIT) practice group.

Essential Job Duties

•Work closely with practice group leaders, committees, and partners on the strategic planning and development of the practice’s training, mentoring, and leadership development programs for lawyers.

•Identify internal and external training resources and oversee and contribute to the development of training programs.

•Coach practice group members to identify and achieve their individualized professional and personal goals and proactively address challenges to achieving those goals.

•Identify, in consultation with practice group leadership, when and whether to support practice group members with development or performance improvement plans and manage the process.

•Manage work allocation process, including collecting capacity data, responding to requests for staffing assignments and ensuring equitable distribution of opportunities.

•Foster a culture of frequent and timely feedback, including managing engagement in the firm’s annual associate evaluation process.

•Create and maintain relationships within the firm at all levels, establishing a reputation as a trusted advisor for career advice and guidance.

•Contribute to cross-functional initiatives by ensuring strong alignment between professional development and the firm’s recruiting and DEI priorities.

•Maintain expert awareness of industry and strategic talent development trends and innovations – share information with other firmwide leadership and make recommendations for action where appropriate.

•Participate in building a culture that is team oriented and committed to professional excellence.

•Prepare and analyze a variety of reports and data for committees, practice group leaders, and firm leadership.

•Support the retention, advancement, and success of the practice’s attorneys.

Minimum Requirement

•Bachelor degree required

•Interest in talent management through the entire life cycle of an attorney from law student to partnership and desire to be a leader in all aspects of talent management

•Motivated to expand skillset and develop additional areas of expertise in order to contribute to a fully integrated talent management team where managers share responsibilities for firmwide programming and all aspects of talent management for specific practice groups

•A minimum of three years of professional-level experience in a legal environment

•Working knowledge of the best practices and trends in employee engagement, retention, training, and development
