Overview
We are looking to hire a passionate data analyst to join our sustainability and investor relations team. The successful candidate will turn data into information, information into insight and insight into business decisions.
You will take responsibility for conducting data driven benchmarking assessments, managing the sustainability master data set, troubleshooting data issues, developing reports, dashboards, and presentation materials. To do well in this role you need a very fine eye for detail, experience as a data analyst, and an understanding of popular data analysis tools, databases, and visualization tools.
Responsibilities
The data analyst will work with Graphic Packaging’s sustainability and investor relations teams on projects related to Graphic Packaging’s sustainability and investor communication and outreach programs. Assignments may include,
Gathering Data:
- Support annual ESG data collection processes.
- Collect and manage data on market research, customer engagements, investor inquiries, and environmental, social, and business benchmarking metrics for competitors and key customers.
- Work with management to prioritize business information needs and acquire data from primary or secondary data sources.
- Research sustainability ratings, events, and conferences most impactful to GPI.
Validating Data:
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of data in spreadsheets and databases, either manually or through a programming language, so that interpretations won’t be wrong or skewed.
- Filter and “clean” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct errors (e.g. duplicates, mistyped entries, or outliers)
- Support annual data verification/auditing processes and data integrity and normalization initiatives.
Modeling data:
- Develop, implement, and maintain databases, data collection systems, data analytics, data mining, data cleansing and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
- Manage master data, including creation, updates, and deletion.
- Manage and design the data reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata.
- Manage confidential data and information according to guidelines.
- Manage data access, users, and user roles.
- Troubleshoot the database environment and reports.
Interpreting data:
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets to provide business insights, identify opportunities, help answer questions, solve problems, and make better decisions.
- Generate data reports and analysis from single or multiple systems.
Presenting Data:
- Communicate ESG and/or benchmarking results and findings through creating visualizations like charts and graphs, developing dashboards, writing reports, and presenting information to internal stakeholders.
- Provide ongoing updates via reports or dashboards.
- Make data driven recommendations to improve or grow the business sustainability strategy and communications.
- Train end-users on new reports and dashboards.
- Lead pursuit of sustainable business awards and recognitions.
- Support data preparation and submission for external sustainability ratings submissions.
- Build central repository for Investor/ESG materials.
Requirements and skills
- BS from an accredited university or college in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics or similar field of study.
- 1-5 years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Data Analyst, or other related field.
- Financial and business practices knowledge. Paper packaging industry knowledge a plus.
- Detail-oriented with a solid grasp of statistics and math for understanding which data tools are best suited to solve a particular problem and provide a better understanding of the results.
- Knowledge of and experience with business intelligence tools (e.g. Bloomberg Terminal, ...)
- Strong knowledge of and experience with handling large data sets, database design/tools, data models, data mining and segmentation techniques, and using statistical packages for analyzing datasets ( e.g. Excel, SQL, SAS, etc.)
- Adept at data visualization/presenting findings in a clear and compelling way through charts and graphs (using tools such as Tableau, Jupyter Notebook, Excel, and Power BI) to explain large amounts of information in a simple, organized manner.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to synthesize and translate business requirements, analysis findings and recommendations into appropriate non-technical, lay terms to ensure various audiences understand the results.

- Strategic mindset with an ability to think broadly, refine questions to address problems that need to be solved, and focus on the right types of data needed to solve defined problems.
- Ability to work in a global, matrixed organization; handle competing priorities; and influence others to deliver performance.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS from an accredited university or college in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics or similar field of study.
- This position is limited to persons with indefinite right to work in the United States.
