Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, a Senior Programmer Analyst Radiology Information Systems Specialist is a valuable member of our Radiology IT Team. The candidate will support the technology solutions used throughout Radiology and associated Imaging areas throughout Stony Brook Medicine and will act as the technical lead for our RIS, Voice Dictation and MQSA applications. The candidate will participate in maintenance and daily support for our Radiology software applications and interfaces. The candidate will demonstrate superior communication and organizational skills, adhering to our high standard of excellence. The candidate will work closely with Radiology leadership, Hospital IT and vendors in order to ensure that the Radiology systems/interfaces to the EMR and automated testing platforms meets the needs of the department and the hospital while conforming to all applicable regulatory requirements.

Duties of a Senior Programmer Analyst Radiology Information Systems Specialist may include the following but are not limited to:

  1. Act as a team lead in this diverse position within a rapidly expanding department; the applicant must be able to support multiple departments, locations and systems with a clear understanding of integration. The applicant is expected to have an in-depth knowledge of Radiology IT Systems and Software.
  2. Act as team lead to provide technical support for our Radiology Information System (RIS), Voice Recognition, Mammography, and integrated Imaging applications, as well as other various imaging application environments across enterprise departments and institutions. Support and maintain operations of these Systems with as close to 100% uptime as possible. This includes daily performance and error monitoring, vendor coordination for upgrades, scheduled recycles and troubleshooting. This position includes development and support of business reports as indicated by the section leader’s business needs. This position includes supporting the tele-radiology needs of the department.
  3. Possess a thorough understanding of Radiology billing with the ability to troubleshoot problems, and act as a liaison with Finance and Radiology.
  4. Act as team lead on supporting custom systems integrations with PACS, Modlink, Dose reporting and other mission critical systems.
  5. Management and first line triaging for HL7 and other interface connectivity between Radiology systems including EMR, Modalities, and 3rd party applications.
  6. Support users with the identification and resolution of application problems. Escalate major issues with vendors.
  7. Work with vendors in evaluation, as well as, implementation of new products and system upgrades. Perform testing of system upgrades, including thorough integration testing. Escalate and keep management informed of status.
  8. Provide application training as needed for end users.
  9. Review, update and prepare Radiology workflow documentation including training guides, installation instructions, downtime and other application policies and procedures to be used within the Radiology applications. Applicant will be expected to ensure test scripts are created, reviewed, updated, documenting testing outcomes and validation.
  10. Lead Rad IT projects and adhere to standard project management guidelines and timeframes as required by the business and IT needs of the departments. Will work and communicate with multi-disciplinary project teams including, physician and administration leadership regarding the status of project, problems, and enhancements.
  11. Adhere to all SBUMC policies and procedures.
  12. Participate in a rotation that provides a 24x7 on-call schedule to support the entire clinical community with diagnostic radiology application issues.
  13. Adherence to hospital wide security initiatives to provide a secure computing environment, application of all software updates within this environment, as well as maintenance and implementation of new and existing PC technologies.
  14. Support all system generated database reporting. Development of ad hoc reports as requested by business leaders and other stakeholders throughout the organization.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 5 years relevant Radiology IT applications support experience in a multi-hospital healthcare setting.
  2. In lieu of a BS or BA degree, A.A.S. with minimum 7 years of Radiology applications support experience.
  3. Team Lead experience in Radiology workflow in a medical imaging setting.
  4. Minimum 3 years’ experience leading imaging projects.
  5. Possess technical knowledge for imaging systems including integrations and dataflow.
  6. Knowledge of patching schedules and server maintenance.
  7. Knowledge and hands-on trainer experience (super users, physicians, business support staff) within the Radiology Information System.
  8. Knowledge of internal database reporting management.
  9. Must demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic imaging processes and terminology.
  10. Ability to troubleshoot and solve interface and technical issues.
  11. Possess a basic understanding of HL7.
  12. Minimum 2 years demonstrated ability working with departments to enhance the various imaging systems to improve patient care and department workflows.
  13. The candidate must have experience with vendor management and must be able to demonstrate outstanding customer service skills.
  14. Ability to work independently.
  15. Must be detail oriented and have strong analytical and organizational skills.
  16. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are essential.

Preferred:

  1. System support experience with the following systems: GE Centricity RIS-IC or Oracle (Cerner) RadNet, Nuance PowerScribe 360 or PS1, Intelerad Penrad and GE Centricity PACS.
  2. Proven experience with RIS integration, implementation, upgrades and validation preferably with GE RIS-IC, Oracle (Cerner) RadNet, Nuance Powerscribe 360, Intelerad Penrad.
  3. A high level of experience with HL7.
  4. Knowledge of reporting tools such as Crystal, SQL, Python or Tableau.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $86149 - $105014.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
