A Day in the Life of a Childcare Site Director

As the Childcare Site Director , you will oversee the day-to-day operations of a YMCA childcare program , ensuring a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for the children. You’ll manage staff , coordinate activities , and maintain compliance with all local, state, and YMCA regulations. Your leadership will contribute to the YMCA's mission of youth development and community engagement .


Responsibilities include :

  • Manage childcare operations and weekly program sessions
  • Supervise childcare staff and ensure effective parent communication
  • Maintain records such as attendance , payments, and incident reports
  • Ensure safety standards are met and maintain a clean environment
  • Plan and coordinate special activities, events, and field trips
  • Oversee compliance with state childcare regulations and YMCA policies


Requirements and Qualifications :

  • Associate’s degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field
  • Minimum of two years of experience in childcare administration or supervision
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications (or willing to obtain within 60 days)
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Either at least 18 credits in a degree relevant to child development or have a New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential or School-Age Child Care Credential
  • Ability to work onsite Part-time
