Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively searching for a Civil or Structural Engineer to lead and manage marine engineering projects, with 6 to 10 years of waterfront, port and maritime infrastructure project experience, including large and small marinas, ports, pier, and wharves, terminals, vessel mooring and berthing structures, bulkheads, breakwater and shore protection structures. The ideal candidate will have structural analysis, modeling and seismic experience. As the successful new hire, your position will include management, supervision and training of junior structural engineering staff and will be responsible to lead engineering, planning, design, and analysis activities for projects. You will be client facing and will responsible for business development. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on and lead some very high-profile projects! You may be seated in either our Walnut Creek (preferred) or Oakland office.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of contract documents for various project delivery methods including drawings, specifications, basis of design, technical reports, technical memorandums, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, project and construction schedules, etc.
  • Lead the development of structural analysis, modeling, calculations and calculation reports
  • Complete analysis, design, inspection of waterfront structures, asset management, submarine systems, and other maritime projects
  • Perform structural analysis and design with timber, steel, concrete and composite materials
  • Prestressed concrete analysis and design
  • Develop plans, specifications, and calculations as needed
  • Help resolve design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project
  • Coordinate with coastal, civil, transportation, mechanical, electrical, construction, inspection, permitting/environmental and other disciplines
  • Office construction administration including review of shop drawings and technical submittals
  • Lead the implementation of quality control and quality assurance on projects
  • Perform construction site inspections and prepare inspection reports
  • Prepare technical study reports and memorandums
  • Assist in public engagement meetings and preparation of presentation materials

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with Structural focus. A Master's degree in Structural Engineering strongly preferred
  • Professional Engineer license required
  • 6 to 10 years of structural design with experience designing piers, marinas, vessel mooring and berthing structures, breakwater and/or shore protection structures
  • Background on structural modeling with nonlinear elements and/or soil-structure interaction preferred
  • Experience using:
    • SAP2000 (required)
    • AutoCAD (preferred)
    • LPile (preferred)
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:
$122,400 to $149,600 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.
Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.
Working conditions:
Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
