Job Description

The school Social Worker is the person responsible for helping scholars who need additional support to be successful in school. They provide support with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents and administrators as well as provide individual and group therapy and counseling. It is the expectation that this individual will work with the colleagues, parents, and scholars to create a school environment that is focused on scholar achievement, character and success beyond high school. We are a school where scholars and families are supported, while maintaining high expectations for all. The school Social Worker is expected to fully embrace the school's methodology and uphold the high expectations of the school. The school Social Worker will support an equitable environment with rigorous instruction, joyous interactions, and strong community partnerships. Though it is impossible to list all roles the school Social Worker will fill, specific job responsibilities include:

Essential Functions:

  • Support scholar attendance and maintain accurate records
  • Work with families to minimize obstacles and ensure compliance with attendance laws
  • Oversee school wide attendance and work with families and staff to reduce truancy and absenteeism
  • Create TABS reports and work with the DA to support scholar attendance when needed
  • Support restorative practices and provide repairing harm circles and community circles
  • Provide training and education to staff and families
  • Provide resources for families and scholars
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEPs
  • Consult district and outside resource people regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of scholars
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, scholars, administration, and teachers
  • Provide assistance to staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodations for students
  • Contribute to program development that furthers the integration of social, coping, and problem solving in the classroom
  • Participate in professional growth activities including certification for CPI
  • Maintain confidentiality

Requirements:

Education

  • Master's degree in Social Work

Experience

  • Experience in an urban setting preferred

Licensing

  • WI DPI School Social Worker License
  • Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification required annually before first day with scholars
