CDI Engineering Solutions is a multi-disciplinary engineering organization offering a full range of integrated engineering design, project support, procurement and construction management services to the energy and chemicals industries.
Position Summary:
Capable of functioning as an electrical and control systems department manager with responsibility for safety, budgeting, project estimation, personnel, and office functions. Recognized within CDI and outside the organization as Subject Matter Expert (SME), formulating and developing advanced engineering concepts. Provides very special knowledge and judgment in a specific field or discipline of the mathematical, physical, or engineering sciences. Provides supervision, coaching and mentoring to support the professional development of other engineers. Performs advanced complex assignments, which require the application of engineering education, training, and experience of a Professional Engineer. Independently practices applying engineering principles in discipline of competency. Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety in daily activities. Analyzes and assists other lower-level engineers with designs are needed. Performs engineering studies to evaluate customer needs and develop alternative solutions that will be technically sound and economically feasible.
Responsibilities:
Prepares highly complex specifications detailing performance requirements, specific components, design requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor drawing requirements.
Prepares technical specifications for review and approval. Assists in the development of design calculations and packages.
Prepares inquiry and purchase requisitions. Prepares bid tabulations on simple purchases. Reviews vendor drawings for major components.
Determines client requirements and develops specifications, drawings, instructions, and related documents.
Develops a focus on least cost, safe design.
Responsible for tracking and reporting budget and schedule on assigned project work for all team members.
Set realistic expectations and ensure assigned projects are completed according to schedule and within budget.
Plan and manage department workload, budgets, and resources.
Develop, review and/or approve conceptual and detailed engineering design packages.
Assist in the development of internal design guidelines, specifications, and design control procedures.
Perform checking of engineering drawings and mathematical calculations.
Interface with other disciplines and clients.
Interact and communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other consultants.
Applies Engineering principles in discipline(s) of competency.
Mentors less experienced engineers, designers, and drafters. Supervises design personnel and other staff specialists.
Participates in sales presentations.
Participates in Business Development
Lead team of mixed Electrical and Instrument Engineers and Designers.
Ability to be a Lead Engineer on multiple Process projects, as well as provide direction to less-experienced engineers on other projects.
Meets CDI Quality assurance requirements for personal work assignments.
Visits jobsites to evaluate site, project requirements, and conditions.
Visits vendor facilities to inspect equipment for compliance with requirements.
Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ability to work with data to generate periodic reports as may be needed.
Must understand design codes, specifications, and standards (both CDI and Client).
CDI recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the chosen area.
Responsible for providing feedback to immediate supervisor regarding co-worker’s performance and any work-related issues, including those that might lead to disciplinary actions.
Provide advice and assistance on work techniques, best practices, and subject matter expertise to co-workers.
Serve as Engineer in Responsible Charge as assigned and adhere to regulations regarding PE sealing requirements specific to assigned projects.
Willing to become Managing Agent for states outside resident state.
Manage client relationships and develop repeat business opportunities.
Compile discipline-specific man-hour estimates, and Total Installed Cost estimates based on client provided project scope. Manage and forecast man-hour requirements and schedules associated with discipline-specific project scope.
Undertake technical and feasibility studies including site investigations.
May lead large scope multi-discipline projects and manage day to day workflow within a group or project; may make assignments, distribute workload, and establish work deadlines; reports to immediate supervisor regarding completion of work.
Actively participates in CDI Discipline Council activities.
Qualifications:
Required: Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience related to Electrical and/or Instrument or Control System Engineering.

Education Requirements:
Required: BS in Electrical Engineering (or higher) from ABET accredited Institution.
Required: PE license in resident state.
Preferred: PE license in majority of Mid-America office states (West Virginia, Michigan, Kentucky). Ability to become Managing agent for states where work is being performed (NCEES record, comity, etc.).
