Position: Associate Professor or Professor, CS, Phase I/Developmental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Program Head
Location: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and University of Washington (UW)
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) invite nominations and applications to lead the Phase I Developmental Therapeutics clinical trials program. The position will be dual appointed with a primary faculty appointment in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and a secondary appointment in the UW Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology.
We seek a visionary leader to head our Phase I Developmental Therapeutics Program, focusing on innovative therapies to provide hope and healing to cancer patients. This Program Head will lead and oversee the development and execution of early-phase clinical trials for novel cancer therapies. This role is crucial in translating groundbreaking research into clinical practice, ensuring the safe and efficient evaluation of new treatments.
The successful candidate will partner with leaders of the Fred Hutch immunotherapy integrated research center and cell-based therapy team to develop and execute an institutional early phase trial strategy. The Program Head will foster strong collaborations with translational researchers and clinical investigators at UW and Fred Hutch and will forge partnerships with biotech and pharmaceutical industry partners to grow the phase I program assets and advance our mission of delivering transformative cancer therapies to our patients.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and expand the Phase 1 clinical trials program in collaboration with our immune therapy and cell-based therapy teams.
- Provide leadership in designing, implementing, and managing early-phase clinical trials.
- Oversee appropriate selection and placement of phase I trials.
- Coordinate the infrastructure needed for optimal implementation of phase I studies, including research nurses, data coordinators, regulatory affairs, tissue acquisition, and biostatistical support.
- Work with medical oncology and other faculty to assure patient accrual to studies.
- Direct care of a portion of the study patients in addition to the faculty member’s standard of care patients.
- Outreach to community oncology providers to enhance access to Phase 1 trials.
- Serve as an academic, clinical, and educational leader charged with organizing, directing, and expanding the research efforts for an established team of clinical researchers involved in conducting phase I trials.
- Assist with faculty recruitment as well as oversight and mentorship of faculty leading Phase I trials.
- Teach and oversee advanced practice providers and fellows during inpatient and outpatient rotations, and deliver informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.
Qualifications:
- MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent).
- Board certification in medical oncology (or foreign equivalent).
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Washington.
The ideal candidate will have a record of and primary interest in Phase I research, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, grants, and/or clinical trial experience.
