Job Summary:

Prime Finance is looking for a collaborative and motivated Senior Tax Accountant to join its San Francisco headquarters. This individual should possess a tax background and a self-starter mentality. At minimum, four years of experience in a tax role is required, and experience in the real estate and/or fund industry is highly preferred.

In addition to supporting the Senior Tax Manager, the position will work and collaborate with the greater Tax, Accounting, Legal, Investor Relations, and Capital Markets functions. The position will work cross-functionally and build relationships with team members from other departments, external advisors, and members of the management team.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist with responding to inquiries from investors, internal Prime team members, third party tax preparer(s), and vendors by gathering and organizing data required for responses.
  2. Support the annual tax return compliance workstream by collecting, organizing, filing, and tracking internally and externally sourced data.
  3. Coordinate with external vendors on completion of tax deliverables, including but not limited to assisting in managing the annual tax returns, tax extension filings, and other tax reporting requirements (e.g., FATCA, CRS, Form 1099s).
  4. Assist in the quarterly tax estimate process, including REIT liquidity planning, tax estimate distribution statements to investors, quarterly tax distributions, and the related estimated payment workstream.
  5. Review, research, and respond to various tax notices, as necessary.
  6. Assist with tax questions related to property tax, franchise tax, and/or other indirect taxes by completing necessary research, reviewing historical files, and/or communicating directly with the IRS, FTB, and/or other jurisdictions.
  7. Support cyclical REIT compliance and election maintenance.
  8. Coordinate with asset managers and/or property managers on real estate owned (REO)-related items.
  9. Support Senior Tax Manager on other technical topics including but not limited to Preferred Equity hypothetical liquidation analysis, Personal Holding Company risk mitigation, UBTI risk mitigation, CLO risk analysis, and Original Issue Discount accretion and tracking.
  10. Support Senior Tax Manager in monitoring legislative changes in U.S. and foreign tax laws that may impact tax positions, including tax accounting implications.
  11. Coordinate closely with Accounting, Legal, and Investor Relations teams as needed in order to complete above listed responsibilities.
  12. Draft internal memo to document various tax issues and related policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or commensurate work experience required
  2. 4-6+ years of related tax experience required, preferably in a real estate and/or fund setting
  3. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, with a particular focus on MS Excel required
  4. Organized and detail oriented
  5. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of our investors, partners, and internal affairs
  6. Able to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  7. Flexible and able to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities
  8. Team-oriented and able to share information, goals, opportunities, successes and failures with appropriate parties
  9. Experience using Yardi, or other accounting GL and Financial Reporting systems preferred

The expected annual base salary range for this role is $95,000 - $145,000. Actual base salary will be determined by several components, including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills and qualifications, base salary of internal peers, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus and a variety of financial, wellbeing, and health / welfare benefits.
