What is a Security Engineer?
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Security Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting Central Hudson’s efforts to assess, design, and support delivery of secure solutions to ensure resilient and safe energy delivery to the Hudson Valley. This will include architecting complex solutions, providing demonstrations and presentations, leading technical discussions, and supporting other technical stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of modern security principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and vendors alike.
What does a Security Engineer do?
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supports product and platform technical security review to validate design.
- Designs and architects secure network and system environments to protect from modern cyber threats.
- Plans and maintains a cybersecurity architecture framework to ensure consistent standards are applied across all technology projects.
- Plans, creates, and maintains detailed cybersecurity design and architecture documentation to guide implementation and maintenance efforts.
- Performs Zero Trust security readiness assessments.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support security awareness and integrate security considerations into the architecture of new and existing systems.
- Partners with engineering and product owners to ensure business requirements are supported by corresponding security and technical requirements.
- Evaluates and recommends new security technologies and enhancements to improve overall enterprise security.
- Cultivated positive and collaborative relationships with vendors to continue supporting improvements in the cybersecurity community.
- Provides storm/emergency response support.
What does it take to be a Security Engineer?
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field of study. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate degree in the aforementioned fields and 3+ years of relevant experience or a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 5+ years of relevant experience will be considered.
- Strong understanding of zero trust, hybrid cloud security architecture, and software architecture best practices and principles.
- Understanding of NIST security controls and practical delivery methods.
- Proficiency in conducting solution architecture security review, developing risk mitigation strategies, and evaluating technical components of vendor agreements.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify, assess, and prioritize effectively.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams, and communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to work with limited direct supervision and professionally respond to constructive feedback.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Three years of experience in security engineering, system administration or similar.
- Experience in Energy & Utilities or services industry.
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, GIAC family, or comparable.
This position has a career path which allows for advancement opportunities within a job series. The title and level are commensurate with experience.
Pay range: $69,800 – $163,800.
