The Dental Assistant 3 performs chair side assisting of undergrad students and graduate students with dental procedures and patient management. Maintains clinic cleanliness, opens and locks up clinic, delivers and retrieves instruments to and from sterilization, and sets up operatories. Performs other duties as needed.

High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum two years dental assisting back office experience required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and X-ray license. Dental Assistant Certification preferred. Minimum two of the following licenses is required: Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant (OMSA), Registered Dental Assistant (RDA), Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), Orthodontic Dental Assistant (ODA), or other equivalent licenses.

Hand eye coordination, hand dexterity, and manual skills are required. Familiar with data management for Zero Base, Ortho II, and Sirona x-ray and photos. Knowledgeable in orthodontic procedures and knowledge of orthodontic materials. Knowledgeable in digital radiographic procedures, equipment usage, taking and processing radiographs, and set up and breakdown of dark room procedures. Knowledgeable in four-handed dentistry procedures and dental material and their usage to avoid unnecessary waste of products. Basic assisting skills with strong hand dexterity in fingers and forearm. Ability to bend orthodontic wires and placing and removing brackets and bands. Must be able to place ligature ties and arch wires and bands. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
