Bradford Elementary School is looking to hire a Food Service Director to start Winter 2024/2025. The Food Service Director will manage the day-to-day food service activities of the school's Child Nutrition Programs (CNP); supervise, assist in hiring and training cafeteria staff; and ensure food service production activities, production records, and Child Nutrition services comply with Federal, State, and District safety guidelines and regulations.


Bradford Elementary School is located in the foothills of the Green Mountains along the picturesque Connecticut River Valley in Bradford, VT. Our 58 staff and 240 PK-6 students are a learner-centered community working together to support student growth academically, socially, and emotionally.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  1. Manage vendor relations, maintaining food service operations in accordance with federal and state food codes.
  2. Supervise, direct, and manage part-time/full-time school year cafeteria workers. Train new employees; plan and issue daily work assignments; monitor work in progress; check completed work; assist with problems; evaluate job performance; plan staffing needs and work schedules; instruct employees on time-sheets compliance.
  3. Train all assigned employees on proper food/safety techniques.
  4. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable laws.
  5. Solicit applications and actively recruit staffing needs. Schedule interviews and make recommendations for employment opportunities within the Child Nutrition Program.
  6. Manage all incoming calls from Cafeteria Coordinators to address issues, complaints, and resolve problems as needed.
  7. Plan, supervise, and coordinate all daily cafeteria operations, including food preparation, cooking, customer service, cashier operations, banking/depositories, and cleanup.
  8. Verify vending revenues and make deposits.
  9. Plan, organize, and write menus for the lunch/breakfast programs to include student/parent feedback for acceptability, ensuring compliance with State and Federal guidelines as well as District Wellness Policies.
  10. Control inventory, rotate products, and maintain appropriate inventory levels to minimize food waste and spoilage.
  11. Participate and manage all inventory receipts, ensuring product rotation and food quality upon receipt.
  12. Perform nutrient analysis on each menu item and post monthly for parental/guardian analysis on our child nutrition website.
