Joby Overview

Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

Overview

Guided by the principles of people, planet, profit, our Sustainability Team is building a world-class program to address climate change impacts, resource conservation, waste reduction, and environmental compliance within Joby Aviation. The team drives initiatives to ensure environmental compliance and environmental sustainability throughout the company. The primary focus of this role is air permitting for manufacturing processes, climate and energy strategy, and metrics results interpretation to evaluate program development and execution in alignment with regulatory requirements and company sustainability goals.

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to work on the Sustainability Team in all aspects of work related to air permitting manufacturing and evolving environmental sustainability programs including energy consumption, resource consumption, carbon emissions, and ESG reporting. The role will require you to develop, implement, and maintain programs that ensure operational environmental compliance and company environmental impact. This person will work cross-functionally with other teams to identify sustainability opportunities to further our mission and execute programs that reduce our environmental impact, meet our external commitments on renewable electricity, and prepare Joby for the next phase of climate regulation. You will develop and track metrics and assist in defining sustainability goals. Additional responsibilities include environmental analysis related to value chain, product life cycle, and compliance for production facilities and any other duties as deemed necessary by the Sustainability Lead.

Strong analytical and communication skills are imperative, and you must have knowledge of key sustainability initiatives such as the air permit requirements for Bay Area Air Quality District (BAAQMD) and Monterey Bay Air Resources District (MBARD), renewable electricity procurement, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, TCFD, GRI, and CDP.

You will report directly to Joby’s Sustainability Lead and work across the team. This role is based out of San Carlos, Marina, or Santa Cruz CA.
