Job Summary:
As a member of the multidisciplinary ACCS Integrated Team, the Addiction Recovery Coach provides peer support services to Persons with alcohol and/or other substance use disorders, gambling, eating disorders, or other addictive behaviors with co-occurring mental illnesses. The Addiction Recovery Coach demonstrates competency in their recovery from addiction and utilizes their own lived experience and their use of successful coping skills to support Persons in their own recovery journeys. The Addiction Recovery Coach contributes to Bay Cove's mission by partnering with Persons to work towards personal goals in order to achieve greater independence and improved quality of life. This is a non-exempt position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
At the discretion of the ACCS Integrated Team Director
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Ability to share one's own personal experiences and recovery story with the purpose and intent to build trust and collaboration with Persons.
- Demonstrate competency in their recovery from addiction and utilizes their own lived experience and use of successful coping skills to support Persons in their recovery journey
- Connect with Persons early in the orientation/intake process to offer an introduction to program services and to promote recovery by providing support, engagement, and hope to Persons contemplating recovery from addictions.
- Participate on the Engagement Team of assigned persons as directed by the ACCS Integrated Team Director
- Provide support and advocacy to Persons for issues related to crisis recovery, psychiatric and medical hospitalizations, medical issues and appointments, housing issues, legal proceedings, employment, community integration, in addition to any other life and care transitions as they occur.
- Assist Persons to build skills that help promote their own recovery and self-sufficiency by providing them education about how to take an active role in their own treatment.
- Organize and attend with Persons alcohol and drug-free social and recreational activities.
- Lead the team in efforts to implement wellness management and recovery strategies, such as Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), psychiatric advance directives, stress management techniques, etc.
- Model behaviors and attitudes consistent with a recovery-oriented culture in which each Person's point of view, experiences, and preferences are recognized, understood, and respected, and in which Persons self-determination and decision-making in treatment planning are maximized and supported.
- Provide ongoing as needed advice and/or assistance with specific clinical cases and provide formal training in recovery principles and strategies to other team members as needed.
- Establish and maintain relationships with peer self-help and advocacy networks to assist Persons in gaining access to these resources. Support Persons to build their own support networks outside of the service system and collaborate with natural supports, families and extended support networks as requested by Persons.
- Help Persons and team members to identify, understand, and combat stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness. Develop strategies to reduce self-stigma, and eliminate stigma from the within the team, including actively and assertively promoting a culture of respect and dignity for Persons.

Requirements for the Position:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related area preferred; High School diploma or GED required.
- Lived experience with addiction and/or mental health issues and willingness to serve as a mentor to others in the process of recovery by sharing own recovery experience required.
- Minimum of 2 years in sustained recovery at time of application.
- Certified Addictions Recovery Coach preferred or willingness to obtain Certified Addictions Recovery Coach status within 6 months of hire date.
- At least two years of experience working with individuals diagnosed with co-occurring disorders or similar human service needs.
- Knowledge of harm reduction strategies, trauma informed approaches and motivational interviewing techniques preferred.
- Knowledge of local addictions/recovery resources and networks.
- Strong commitment to the right of each Person with mental health challenges to live in community residences, to work in market jobs, and to have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services of their own choosing.
- Professional writing and oral communications skills.
- High degree of personal organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps.
- Use of personal cellular telephone for work communication.
- Ability to go up and down stairs to monitor clients on multiple floors and physical capacity to assist people with mobility impairments as needed.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply, pay differential offered for candidates with fluency in certain essential languages.
