Summary:
The Laboratory Clinical Educator is responsible for the planning, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of educational programs for the Department of Laboratory Medicine. This begins with the coordination and ongoing review of an effective department orientation for both team members as well as students. The Clinical Educator serves as an instructor and coordinator of educational activities among laboratory team members and students. He/she assesses the department's educational needs and creates an educational plan with monthly calendars in collaboration with laboratory leadership, The Clinical Educator implements the plan by teaching on topics within her/his area of expertise; coordinating and supervising the teaching activities of others as appropriate to the topic; and introducing evaluation tools to determine the effectiveness of educational efforts while determining needed improvements. This position surveys team members and leadership to determine annual team member education needs and searches out various education opportunities to meet those needs
The Laboratory - Clinical Education is a Medical Technologist who uses personal expertise, subject experts from within the laboratory, system-level resources, and when appropriate and feasible external presenters to meet the educational needs of all laboratory team professionals. The Clinical Educator serves as a resource person and role model for team members and creates a direct connection between the Laboratory and system Organization Development educational efforts.
Access to patient information may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this role as it relates to education of other team members and assistance in the delivery of patient care. Adherence to all Ballad confidentiality policies and practices is required.
The Laboratory - Clinical Educator serves as the back-up for the Ballad Laboratory Point of Care Coordinator providing assistance to point of care users throughout the hospital/system.
The Laboratory - Clinical Educator may be asked to serve as a bench technologist. The Medical Technologist (MT) is responsible for the independent performance of complex and specialized testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The MT is required to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles used in diagnostic testing in order to recognize deviations in an expected result analyze technical problems and make necessary corrections to achieve quality results. The ability to operate and maintain variety of complex scientific equipment is a requirement of this job. The abilities to recognize quality control deviations; communicate problems to management, pathologists, as well as staff members; and assist with problem resolutions are also requirements.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required. Knowledge of accrediting/regulatory documentation requirements, patho-physiology for test result/disease assessment and theory/application of testing is a requirement. Medical Technologists performing testing in the State of Tennessee must hold a current Tennessee licensure per the State of Tennessee General Laboratory Board rules and regulations 1200-6-1-.03. A team member who may be hired while in the process of obtaining approval from the state of TN is prohibited to report laboratory testing values/results until a copy of the license is received and verified by the organization.Actual experience in a clinical laboratory setting outside of a training environment is not a requirement. Certified experience in a non-clinical setting will be considered, provided that this experience meets state licensure requirements.Medical Technologists performing clinical trial testing for the State of New York must meet The State of New York Department of Health Part 58-1 of 10 NYCRR Clinical Laboratories Standards 58-1.5, Duties and qualifications of clinical laboratory technical personnel.
