Job Description

Summary/objective

Buffalo Rock is an award-winning Pepsi and Keurig Dr Pepper bottler founded in Birmingham, AL more than 123 years ago. Buffalo Rock manages the best beverage portfolio in the country, which includes several beloved global and regional brands. The Staff Accountant position is a key member of the Financial Accounting Team.The Staff Accountant is responsible for the preparation, examination, and analysis of assigned company accounting records, financial statement preparation and analysis, and any other financial reports to assess the accuracy, completeness, and conformance to the Company's reporting and procedural standards. In addition, this position will be responsible for handling other accounting, financial or administrative duties as deemed appropriate from time to time.

  • Financial Statements

o Learn the functionality of the company's financial management systems (Oracle and VIP).

o Assist with month and year end financial statement review.

o Reconcile balance sheet accounts (cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc.) in the applicable subsidiary ledger to the applicable summary level account in the general ledger.

o Reconcile various access database details to the general ledger.

o Prepare and post standard journal entries.

o Distribute monthly financial reports.

o Prepare year end audit work papers and schedules; assist auditors with their inquiries.

o Maintain credit card and EFT payment files.

o Maintain lease accounting files, to ensure proper lease classification, and prepare lease related journal entries.

o Assist with review of product costs.

o Review meals and entertainment and other expense accounts for proper coding.

o Maintain various financial analysis spreadsheets.

  • Property Tax Administration

o Prepare property tax returns (Alabama, Florida, Georgia) for timely filing.

o Assist with the resolution of any property tax filing and payment issues with the applicable tax jurisdiction.

o Prepare annual accrual for property tax liabilities.

  • Sales, Use and Rental Tax Administration

o Prepare and file sales, use and rental tax returns for the Company.

o Prepare changes to the sales and use tax codes in the Company sales (VIP), leasing (Maintenance Connection) and payables (Oracle) systems.

o Prepare reconciliations of the balance in the sales, use and rental tax subsidiary ledger(s) to the summary level account in the general ledger.

  • Treasury Management

o Assist daily with cash flow management.

  • Required to complete other activities assigned.

Required education and experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree (four-year college) Field of Study: Accounting: Required

  • Experience:
    • Must have at least one (1) year of experience in public or private accounting: Required
    • Prior experience in Sales & Use tax: Preferred


  • Certifications & Licenses:
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA eligible: Preferred

  • Computer Skills:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office products is required including, but not limited to: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Access, etc.: Required
