The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2.
This opportunity is eligible for H-1B Sponsorship.
Under the general supervision of Dr. Jonathan Liu, we are looking for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 2 to assist with various federally funded projects in the Molecular Biophotonics Laboratory, including the development of advanced microscopes placed in the operating room to guide tumor-resection procedures, and the imaging of clinical biopsies in 3D with open-top light-sheet microscope devices to enable the development of computational assays for patient risk stratification and clinical decision support.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Optomechanical design (30%)

  • Development of custom sample holders and stages
  • Developing microscope systems and enclosures
  • Assisting with the development of automated tissue scanning systems
    Assisting with clinical studies (30%)
  • Tissue acquisition
  • IRB protocol assistance
  • Protocol development
  • Coordination with clinical staff
  • Imaging of clinical tissue specimens with 3D microscopy systems
  • Documentation of technical and clinical testing
    Experimental analysis (20%)
  • Assisting with data processing routines and data management
  • Assisting with development of new analysis routines
  • Assisting with preparation of data for publications and presentations
    Lab and project management (15%)
  • Maintenance of lab equipment
  • Ordering of supplies
  • Assisting with safety inspections
  • Assisting with timelines, deliverables, and reports with fellow team members
    Other duties as assigned (5%)
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or related field and Two years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.
    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience in mechanical engineering, basic coding and training in biodesign process.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in optical system design, fluent Python coding, big-data and image-processing, wet-lab, biostatistics, and clinical study coordination.
