The Senior IT Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining the IT infrastructure, ensuring business systems reliability and availability, implementing security measures, and setting policies and procedures for backup and disaster recovery. The role also focuses on managing and optimising cloud infrastructure, including Azure services and general cloud platforms. It includes supporting users and implementing IT policies. A key focus is training and documentation to facilitate effective system management, troubleshooting, and end-user support.

The role is essential for ensuring the operational integrity and security of both on-premise and cloud IT environments, requiring strong problem-solving skills, deep technical expertise in cloud technologies, and a comprehensive understanding of Azure and broader cloud solutions.


Responsibilities:
  • Cloud & Infrastructure Management: Oversee on-premise and cloud infrastructure ensuring seamless integration, performance, and security of hybrid environments.
  • Azure Networking & Security: Manage Azure virtual networks, hybrid networking solutions, cloud firewalls, and security policies to protect data and optimize connectivity.
  • Procurement of End-User Devices: Manage the acquisition, deployment, and lifecycle of end-user devices (laptops, desktops, mobile devices, etc.), ensuring alignment with organizational needs and budget constraints.
  • Proactive IT Solutions: Anticipate potential IT issues, downtime, or security risks, and implement preventive measures to ensure business continuity.
  • System Management & Maintenance: Oversee servers, network devices, cloud services, operating systems, and software applications to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
  • Security Management: Implement and manage security measures, including cloud-based security, firewalls, antivirus software, and data encryption to protect organizational information.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Provide high-level support for IT and cloud infrastructure issues, identifying and resolving hardware, software, or network problems across both on-premise and cloud systems.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Ensure data backups are regularly performed and that cloud-based disaster recovery plans are in place, tested, and can be executed as needed.
  • System Upgrades & Patching: Plan and execute hardware, software, and cloud system upgrades and ensure systems are patched with the latest security updates.
  • Vendor & Resource Management: Manage relationships with third-party vendors, including those providing cloud services, to ensure optimal use of cloud resources and other IT services.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and best practices, with a specific focus on cloud security, governance, and compliance.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • BSc/BA in Information Technology, Computer Science, or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in IT, with at least 3 years focused on cloud infrastructure management (Azure preferred).
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Azure and general cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with Office 365, mobile device management solutions, and cloud-based collaboration tools.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and experience managing technical projects.
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • High level of cybersecurity expertise, with certifications such as CISSP or cloud security certifications (e.g., Azure Security Engineer, AWS Certified Security) advantageous.
  • ITIL certification or equivalent knowledge of IT service management.
Success Factors:
  • Delivering Solutions and Resolving Issues: Strong technical proficiency in cloud computing, especially Microsoft Azure, operating systems (Windows, Linux), networking principles, virtualization, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Security and Compliance: Implementing robust cloud security practices, ensuring the protection of systems and data from cyber threats, in line with standards such as ISO 27001.
  • System Uptime & Availability: Maintaining high availability of cloud and on-premise systems, utilizing continuous monitoring, reporting, and proactive maintenance.
  • Communication Skills: Clear communication with team members, other departments, and users, explaining complex technical concepts and providing training and documentation on cloud-based solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Driving improvements in cloud infrastructure and IT processes through regular updates, monitoring, and preventive maintenance, ensuring both cloud and on-premise systems’ availability.
  • ISMS Procedures: Ensuring all Information Security Management System (ISMS) procedures, particularly those related to cloud environments, are implemented and tested effectively.
Capabilities:
  • Cloud Management: Expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, etc.), including virtual machines, cloud storage, networking, and security.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across both on-premise and cloud systems.
  • Networking: Proficiency in network configuration for both traditional LANs and cloud networking (e.g., VPNs, VNet).
  • Scripting and Automation: Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to automate cloud and on-premise tasks.
  • Monitoring and Performance Tuning: Utilise monitoring tools to assess system and cloud performance, optimise resource usage, and enhance cost-efficiency.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage and lead IT and cloud migration projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and business objectives.
