Lead Janitor Position

This Lead Janitor position provides and directs the activities of those involved in a variety of cleaning services and other related duties required to keep food service areas, office facilities, and similar areas in a clean and orderly condition. This position will expedite product, supplies and equipment from facility to facility. All duties are to be performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values as well as housekeeping policies, practices, and procedures.

$2,000 Sign-On Bonus : Bonus based on length of service and paid out over the course of one year; $500 bonus after three months, $500 bonus after six months, and $1,000 bonus after one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs all duties required of a janitor or other assigned employee.
  2. Is accountable for meeting all of the obligations required of assigned employees.
  3. Promotes NMS Core Values in the workplace.
  4. Helps direct and guide assigned housekeeping and janitorial employees.
  5. Follows and informs assigned employees of client directed site specific worksite guidelines and procedures.
  6. Helps train new staff and provides ongoing training to existing staff.
  7. Regularly conducts inspections to maintain the quality of provided services.
  8. Coordinates associated equipment care and maintenance.
  9. Makes sure all quality standards and work procedures for staff are met.
  10. Personally resolves minor maintenance or client emergencies as they occur or takes steps to permanently address them.
  11. Assists employees in the resolution of work-related difficulties.
  12. Identifies, resolves, or appropriately reports site's safety hazards.
  13. Utilizes safe work practices and uses proper PPE in the performance of all tasks.
  14. Cleans, vacuums, mops, or restocks hallways, stairways, offices, food preparation or break areas, kitchen areas or equipment, work areas, off-site areas, common areas, restrooms, public areas, or other similar areas.
  15. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, extracts, waxes, buffs, vacuums, etc. all types of floors.
  16. Dusts both low and high areas. Wipes down or cleans various surfaces.
  17. Uses appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions for all tasks.
  18. Removes and properly disposes of discarded materials.
  19. Removes and transports trash via vehicle to the appropriate disposal areas.
  20. Removes linen, towels, and trash from various areas.
  21. May require cleaning of indoor and/or outdoor smoking lounges.
  22. May change light bulbs and perform very light facility maintenance.
  23. May keep building entryways free of snow and debris.
  24. Participates in and supports corporate and client safety programs.
  25. Operates a vehicle to travel and work at several client locations nightly, on and off site.
  26. Notifies supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
  27. Notifies supervisor of equipment and supply needs.
  28. This position has supervisory responsibilities.
  29. Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. At least one (1) year experience that evidences a working knowledge of cleaning equipment and general cleaning processes.
  3. At least one (1) year of supervisory experience in a directly related field.
  4. Currently hold or have the ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 30 days of hire.
  5. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
  6. Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include but are not limited to: drug test, physical and fit for duty assessment and hearing test. Applicants not located near a testing facility are responsible for paying for travel to the nearest testing facility.
  7. Must be able to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers, and clients.
  8. Must be able to make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
  9. Must be able to be on your feet for 10-12 hours per shift.
  10. Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read, and write English.
  11. Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  1. Weather: Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to arctic conditions.
  2. Noise level: Moderate to Loud.
  3. Description of environment: Employees must constantly be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch. Employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  4. Physical requirements: Fit For Duty Test.
