The Director of Veterans & International Student Affairs/Community Relations oversees the planning, implementation, administrative operations, and support services for the institution's veteran and international student population. In addition, the Director serves as college liaison to community organizations, developing and maintaining partnerships that promote the college’s mission of workforce development. Essential functions:
- Counsels and assists veterans in obtaining educational financial assistance via Veterans Administration loans, work study, and other benefits, ensuring they understand Veteran's Administration rules/requirements. Audits veterans' records regularly to assure compliance with Veterans Administration rules and regulations and maintains files on each veteran at the institution who receives benefits. Serves as VA certifying official; certifies student records in VAONCE according to federal guidelines.
- Serves as ADA/504 coordinator. Coordinates and conducts ADA compliance audit on an annual basis and provides training and awareness to faculty/staff annually.
- Serves as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO).
- Guides international students through the admissions process, advising them about postsecondary programs, training, academic programs, placement testing, and transfer rules. Maintains academic regulations with DHS context. Preserves and updates international student data in the Student Exchange and Information System (SEVIS). Works with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) on behalf of students requesting employment documents, transfers, visas, and reinstatement; interfaces with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding student violations of SEVIS regulations. Provides students with federal and institutional regulations/information to maintain compliance while holding an F-1/M-1 visa; processes admissions applications and issues I-20 documents requesting student visa; maintains documentation of all correspondence and files for all F-1/M-1 visa students.
- Provides organizational leadership in the development and implementation of a community relations plan to engage community groups and key stakeholders in college and campus issues or changes that are of interest and that may impact them. Participates in area community meetings, chambers of commerce, city council, and other key associations and partner meetings, representing the college’s interests and sharing information to enhance the college’s image in the community.
- Manages and supports grant funded projects.
Required qualifications include Bachelor’s degree from a national or regionally accredited college or university and two (2) years of related full-time work experience at a college/university. Preferred qualifications are Master’s degree from a national or regionally accredited college or university in a closely related field and five (5) years of related full-time work experience.
A Bachelor’s degree from an academic institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education in educational leadership, vocational administration, counseling, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience in a secondary, postsecondary, or higher education environment. Note: An equivalent combination of education and job-specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience, and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
