ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The University's Controller's Office (UCO) is a university-wide function which is led by the Associate Vice President and Controller. The mission of the University of South Florida Controller's Office is to safeguard institutional resources and provide accounting and operational support in an effective and efficient way while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory financial guidelines. This includes collecting and disbursing University funds and providing accurate, timely, and complete periodic financial reports.

The UCO consists of Financial Accounting (General Accounting, Financial Reporting, Research Cash Management, Asset Management) and Student Accounting (Cashier's Office, Customer Service, Accounts Receivable).

POSITION SUMMARY:

Financial Reporting Manager oversees the Financial Reporting unit within the Controller's Office, ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of the University's financial statements. Administers the University's financial reporting program, providing reliable financial information to university leadership (including the Board of Trustees), the university community, and external regulatory authorities. This role requires a deep understanding of financial principles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Statement Reporting: Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant standards. Address audit inquiries promptly and accurately. Ensure the integrity of financial data by monitoring, maintaining, and analyzing accuracy for audits and regulatory reports. Identify and resolve discrepancies, troubleshooting any related financial reporting issues.

Reporting and Communication: Develop and distribute reports and communications on accounting information to the university community and leadership. Provide clear explanations and act as a liaison on financial and accounting issues, addressing concerns, answering questions, and resolving discrepancies. Assist in training departmental users and other personnel on reporting processes to enhance their understanding and efficiency.

Decision Support: Deliver accurate and timely financial data to support effective decision-making. Generate and distribute reports and communications for special and ad hoc projects requested by the Associate Controllers, University Controller, Chief Financial Officer, and other university leaders. Ensure the reliability and clarity of financial information in all presentations.

Team Leadership: Supervise the daily operations of the Financial Reporting team, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to deadlines. Mentor and develop staff within the unit, fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented environment that encourages professional development.

Reporting Structure Management: Design and maintain the reporting structure used to generate the university's annual financial statements, ensuring consistency and accuracy in all financial reports.

Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position's specific responsibilities and five to seven years of experience.

PREFERRED:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting principles.
Experience in higher education or non-profit sector preferred.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Proficient in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
