Assistant Director of Nursing


Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, under the general direction of the Director of Nursing Support Services, this position of TH Assistant Director of Nursing/House-wide Supervisor has the responsibility for coordinating all administrative and clinical matters pertaining to the administration, coordination, and supervision of nursing activities in the hospital. These duties encompass, but are not limited to, supervision and guidance of clinicians, evaluation of patient care practices, implementation of Performance Improvement monitoring, and participation in decision making activities. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.


Duties of a TH Assistant Director of Nursing/House-wide Supervisor may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Utilize Stony Brook Medicine mission, vision and values to set the departmental benchmark for customer service.
  • Participates and monitors the organization’s quality and patient safety programs:
  • Coordinates and directs the day to day patient flow of the ED/PACU and all inpatient units within the Division of Nursing. Works cohesively with Admitting Department to ensure timely bed assignments. Advises the Director of all matters pertinent to the administration of Nursing Support Services.
  • Maintains an appropriate level of staffing to meet patient care requirements and NYS Nursing Quality Protection Act. Makes daily staffing adjustments to accommodate changes in patient census and acuity.
  • Address and resolves patient/family concerns and complaints.
  • Functions as the Administrator on Duty for all Hospital related activities during the evening and night shift, weekend and holidays. Ensures back up AOD/Chief Nursing Officer remains apprised of pertinent issues related to hospital operations in a timely manner.
  • Ensures full compliance with requirements set forth by accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Implements Chain of Command Policy as appropriate. Empowers staff to utilize Chain of Command Policy.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer applications Clairvia and Capacity Management. Utilizes SB Safe for reporting quality improvement information.
  • Assists the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Interprets hospital policies to nursing staff and provides opportunities for education when necessary.
  • Provides for direct day-to-day evaluation of the quantitative services to patients and communicates results to appropriate Nurse Manager.
  • Collaborates with members of the medical staff as well as other disciplines in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
  • Maintains regular communication with Nurse Managers regarding observations of staff and clinical performance.
  • Ensures the implementation and evaluation of standards of nursing practice. Participates in the Performance Improvement Program Activities.
  • Serves on selected committees as designated by the Director of Nursing Support Services.
  • Conducts ongoing quality assurance chart reviews to ensure appropriate medical documentation is provided by medical health care team.

Qualifications


Required :

  • Current NYS RN Licensure.
  • B.S.N or related field.
  • Five years post licensure experience to include three years in specialty and two years management/supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Recent Acute Care experience.

Preferred :

  • Master's degree.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen.
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $55236 - $74339.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
