RTX Technology Research Center’s Physical Sciences Department is seeking an innovative corrosion engineer/scientist. The candidate is intended to be an integral member of dynamic teams focused on advancing understanding of corrosion phenomena experienced in both aerospace and defense applications, as well as creating and advancing novel materials and coatings technologies for those applications.
What You Will Do:
- Work with multi-disciplinary teams to execute complex internally and externally funded technology projects.
- Support the implementation and expansion of the corrosion- and coatings-related technology development strategy.
- Initiate innovative concepts, write proposals, market the concepts either internally or externally.
- Lead project execution.
- Generate intellectual property and publish/present technical findings.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- A B.S. Degree in Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related field and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience.
- Strong technical expertise in corrosion science, including working experience with various corrosion environments and testing processes and procedures, coatings for corrosion protection and mitigation, material and electrochemical characterization.
- A holistic understanding of the corrosion science and technology field, and knowledge of the key players in the field, i.e., a strong external network.
- Strong project management skills in executing multi-disciplinary projects and providing timely deliverables to customers.
- Self-initiation of concepts, writing proposals, and marketing the concepts either internally or externally to expand the corrosion technology portfolio.
- Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external customers including both technical experts, various levels of managers, and functional personnel.
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- PhD degree in Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related field and 7+ years of related corrosion work experience.
- Familiarity with aerospace/defense applications.
- Root cause analysis to understand corrosion phenomena in the field.
- Corrosion modeling capabilities to match experiments to theory.
- Experience on corrosion coating scale up and technology transition from R&D to manufacturing.
- Working experience with corrosion associated with additively manufactured parts.
- Multiple papers and patents.
- A proven record of successful project execution.
The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
