Role
The Commercial Lender, under the direct supervision of the VP of Commercial and Consumer Loans, is responsible for assisting VP and Senior Lenders with all aspects of managing the commercial loan portfolio including, but not limited to, new requests, exceptions, maturities, renewals, past dues, charge offs, collections, etc. They will also manage and build their own assigned loan portfolio by examining, evaluating, authorizing, or recommending approval of member applications for commercial loans. Builds and maintains a complete banking relationship with loan members to include deposit accounts. Seeks out and develops new Credit Union relationships and recognizes the need for and/or cross sell other Credit Union products and refer clients to the correct personnel. Interviews clients, processes applications and obtains required documentation to ensure the Credit Union has a perfected security interest and policy requirements are being met.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Participates in extensive training on Credit Union policies and practices to successfully perform the job responsibilities, while demonstrating initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Assists VP and Senior Lender through monitoring of the entire loan portfolio and communication with Members
  • Manages loan portfolio including, but not limited to, exceptions, maturities, renewals, past dues, charge offs, collections, etc.
  • Requests applicant credit reports, background checks, reference checks, and other information pertinent to loan applicant's evaluation.
  • Corresponds with or interviews applicants or creditors to resolve questions regarding application information.
  • Analyzes applicant financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan or submits application to credit analyst for verification and recommendation.
  • Compiles loan package and facilitates negotiation of loan structure with applicant, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms.
  • Passionately support the Credit Union's mission, core values, and long-term objectives.
  • Participate in community events and organizations to increase the Credit Union's visibility and to enhance new business opportunities.
  • Works closely with Credit Analysts, Loan Processors to ensure smooth loan processes from start to finish
  • Exhibits a positive attitude toward Credit Union initiatives and mission statement, supporting member acquisition and retention.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to use office technology such as a computer, internet, email, and other office related software
  • Ability to work in an office environment for at least 8 hours per day
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned
Performance Measurements
  • Proactively Manage and maintain portfolio to reduce and avoid exceptions, maturities, renewals, past dues, charge offs, collections, etc.
  • Increase the Credit Union's profitability by cultivating and increasing new business relationships.
  • Maintain and develop member relationships, new business, and periodic review of existing loan arrangements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of accounting and financial principles, marketing and sales principles, credit analysis, economics, and other bank functions
  • Willingness to work varying hours as needed for member communication.
  • Provides a superior level of member service and relations.

Knowledge & Skills
Experience Minimum of 1-2 years' experience in financial services and/or lending
Education A high school education or GED, college degree preferred.
Interpersonal Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of business development, building relationships and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
