General Description of Duties
The Council on the Status of Men and Boys (CSMB) Life Coach Navigator is an essential civilian position under the direction of the CSMB Executive Director. The CSMB Life Coach Navigator coordinates and facilitates services for at-risk men and boys through assessment, evaluation, planning, and implementation. The CSMB Life Coach Navigator is responsible for helping to reduce violence in the community through the support of young men and boys who have been identified as being at very high risk of being involved in violence. CSMB Life Coach Navigators primarily work with men and boys ages 12-24 who have extensive criminal justice involvement, have been the victim of violence or have friends that have been the victim of violence, or have been suspended or expelled from school. CSMB Life Coach Navigators are expected to establish trusting relationships with their clients and spend significant time with their clients helping them mitigate their risk factors and eventually connecting them to services, supports, and opportunities. This position must adhere to the agency core values of honesty and integrity, accountability, teamwork, trust and respect and commitment to excellence. To be successful in this position, the employee must demonstrate competency in chose from these skills (data entry and retrieval skills, time management skills, basic to intermediate computer skills, general communication skills (both written and oral), interpersonal skills, customer service skills and problem-solving skills.) This is a grant funded position.
Essential Duties
  1. Develop and maintain a trusting relationship with clients.
  2. Perform interviews and assessments to determine risks.
  3. Identify service needs, coordinate service intervention, and collaborate with system of care partners.
  4. Develop life plans, including safety plans, with each client. Plans will include personal goals and outcomes.
  5. Provide intensive individualized support to reduce harm.
  6. Understand the widespread impact of trauma and potential paths for recovery; recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, and others. Actively prevents re-traumatization and works to reduce trauma's impact.
  7. Maintain appropriate and timely contact with clients based on the priority level assigned via the case management response matrix.
  8. Work collaboratively with community service providers to develop contacts, facilitate referrals, and assist case management staff with engaging clients in recommended services and improving timely access to treatment.
  9. Coordinate wrap-around services by establishing collaborative relationships with community agencies.
  10. Serve as an advocate to connect clients to services. Assist with navigating provider and governmental bureaucracies that can be intimidating or confusing.
  11. Assist individuals in identifying barriers to accessing resources and support them in overcoming these.
  12. Responsible for participation and/or facilitation of staffing, care coordination, and assistance with resolving barriers frequently present in young males at-risk for violence.
  13. Coordinate with CSMB School-Based and Community-Based Navigators to connect clients with appropriate services and remove identified barriers to receiving services.
  14. Ensure inter-agency collaboration with principal stakeholders.
  15. Maintain and track success benchmarks and outcomes.
  16. Document all contacts, milestones, and significant developments in SPIRIT.
  17. Collect and organize weekly, monthly, and quarterly statistical data.
  18. Ability to work closely with others as a team.
  19. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  20. Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise, and objective written and oral reports.
  21. Ability to meet requirements and maintain required licensures and certifications as well as agency required in-service training.
  22. Ability to adhere to the standards and principles of the agency's core values and professionally represent the agency.
  23. Ability to report to work timely, consistently, and as scheduled.
  24. Ability to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, majors in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, or Social Sciences required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years in case management, criminal justice, or social service field required.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as those listed above.
Necessary Special Requirements
  • Must be able to lift, push, carry or pull a minimum of 25 pounds independently.
  • Work is primarily performed in a secure office environment. Position may require travel to attend various meetings and functions related to performance of tasks.
  • Must be available to work varied hours, extended shifts, and be on call as needed.
