Bellwood Developmental Center, an 82 bed ICF/DD Facility, is looking for an experienced, creative & dependable Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join our dynamic, caring, progressive and close-knit community.

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) has the responsibility of providing professional nursing treatment and care to residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities according to established rules, regulations, and standard practices of the profession.

Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understands and is invested in the mission of Bellwood Developmental Center and our dedication to our residents. This understanding is reflected and exhibited consistently through a customer service approach to the execution of all duties, responsibilities, and interactions at the workplace.
  • Provides and oversees professional nursing care delivery by determining the kind and amount of nursing care required.
  • Reviews and rearranges work schedules of nursing personnel to secure full floor coverage at the pre-determined standard.
  • Makes periodic rounds to check quality of nursing care delivery and to observe acutely ill residents.
  • Analyzes, supervises, and evaluates subordinate professional and sub-professional nursing personnel.
  • Contacts families of residents concerning resident room changes, clinical issues, behavioral problems, etc., as appropriate and requested.
  • Informs physicians of any important medical issues, changes, and conditions.
  • Attends routine and ad hoc meetings regarding residents and/or clinical issues that may arise throughout the organization.
  • Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Nursing Services in their absence.
  • Works with other Nursing Department Team members and the Human Resources Department to interview, hire, and orient new personnel, both in nursing and in other departments as appropriate and requested.
  • Disciplines and adjusts grievances, or effectively recommends such action for Nursing Department personnel as appropriate.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all protected health information whether electronic, written, or oral to which he/she may be exposed either during the course of his/her duties or as the result of an incidental disclosure.
  • Observes and practices all safety standards and protocols as set forth by facility and departmental policy and procedure, manufacturers, and/or Safety committee as appropriate.
  • As a member of Nursing Leadership, participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the strategic plan.
  • Must have an open, available, and flexible schedule.

Requirements:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with current Illinois License; RN preferred.
  • 5 years clinical experience preferred.
  • Must be up to date in vaccinations for Covid.
  • Experience working with individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern nursing techniques, routines, and methods as applied in health care institutions, and of new developments in the field of nursing.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to research and apply evidence-based practices to current care practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of leadership, supervisory, and personnel principles and practices.
  • Skill in planning, assigning, and supervising assigned personnel.
  • Skill in supervising the proper care and custody of residents and seeing that the orders of the physician are efficiently and effectively carried out.
  • Skill in encouraging a proper professional attitude among the members of the nursing staff.
  • Skill in preparing and supervising the preparation of accurate and detailed clinical, medical, and other records and reports.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in acceptable business English.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
