Position Summary

The ITAM Data Quality group is a part of Enterprise Architecture in IT, which is responsible for ensuring Northern Trust’s IT Asset Management data is accurate, complete and consistent, allowing Northern Trust to make informed decisions that drive business success. The ITAM Data Quality Architect is responsible for leveraging data quality tooling to identify and assess data quality gaps, managing and driving data remediation efforts to completion, developing data quality metrics and building data visualizations/analytics solutions to generate actionable insights and track the overall quality of IT Asset Management data. They will work closely with leadership and different departments across IT to ensure data quality is maintained and efforts to remediate it continue to be prioritized and executed upon.

The ideal candidate would have a combination of 4 things:

  1. Understanding of how data works, connects together and is used to drive business decisions/strategy.
  2. Interest in collaborating with a broad set of stakeholders to gather business requirements to drive data quality monitoring and manage a diverse set of work to remediate data issues.
  3. Interest in creating analytics solutions/data visualization to drive business insights and solve business problems through data.
  4. Ability to project manage and coordinate across teams to remediate data quality challenges.

The candidate will need to be self-motivated and enthusiastic with a drive to help enable real change across IT through data.

Expertise

  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key business and technical concepts, and then effectively communicate these concepts with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and to manage multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
  • Strong analytical, data processing and problem-solving skills.
  • Solving complex business problems through analysis and data driven approaches.
  • Understanding of data management, data analysis, data governance, data modeling, data integration and data mapping.
  • Expect some exposure to data quality tools used to identify potential quality issues with data sets and improve accuracy.
  • Expect some knowledge of IT Asset Management fundamentals including, technology asset life cycle (whether digital technology, information, financial or physical assets), best practice governance, tools and services.
  • Explain complex technical concepts in simple and understandable terms to non-technical stakeholders.

Major Duties

  • Dig deep into data, analyze complex data sets, and identify trends and patterns in order to improve overall data quality.
  • Critically analyze and understand data, identify deviations, out-of-tolerances, and anomalies and provide recommendations to improve data quality.
  • Monitor data quality metrics and analyze trends to identify data quality issues early on.
  • Work closely with other teams, asset owners and stakeholders to identify changes in data sources, systems, or business processes and adjust data quality standards, business rules for data quality monitoring and procedures accordingly.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting and that data completeness and quality issues are quickly identified and escalated to the responsible data or process owners.
  • Develop dashboards and reports to track data quality metrics and initiate remediation efforts where necessary.
  • Communicate the design, functioning, and output of the analytical models/solutions developed.
  • Conduct analysis to provide actionable insights to business stakeholders through data visualization.
  • Take ownership, maintain, and improve existing analytics tools.
  • Serve as the day-to-day contact for the team on translation of business requirements and drive user stories.
  • Identify emerging needs and drive change as ITAM develops and matures to meet organizational and technology challenges.

Experience

Requires a college or university degree in finance, IT, engineering, business management or a related field and/or relevant proven work experience. Tertiary qualifications in data analysis, data visualization, ITAM and/or project management. Relevant experience, that has been developed over 7+ years, in ITAM roles or demonstrable experience of working with IT asset management professionals and/or data analysis/data visualization experience. Experience with IT asset management systems - ServiceNow, Flexera, etc. Experience with data quality tooling such as Collibra. Experience with data visualization tooling (PowerBI etc.), data delivery platforms (Incorta, Azure Analysis Services, etc.) and/or database scripting tooling (SQL etc.).
