As a Survivor Advocate, you will work in the community to provide direct support, education, and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking. You will work to provide resources and education for safety, healing, and growth, and to promote community awareness and engagement in addressing these issues.
Responsibilities:
Direct Advocacy Service (70%)
  • Provide direct advocacy services, in person and via other forms of communication, to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking
  • Assess strengths and needs of clients using interview, case history, and observation techniques
  • Work with clients to determine, implement, and monitor action plan to address needs, including safety plan
  • Refer clients to community resources
  • Provide advocacy support via hospital response
  • Apply appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as required
  • Provide community education presentations and/or support groups to children, youth and adults on topics related to domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all client information
Indirect Advocacy Service (15%)
  • Develop a network of contacts and resources to use with clients
  • Conduct outreach to local organizations and communities to increase visibility of survivor services
  • Develop presentations, awareness programming, support group topics (as assigned)
  • Develop knowledge on topics related to survivor services
  • Represent agency at community events or meetings to promote survivor services and advocate on behalf of survivors (as assigned)
  • Support Advocacy Program Volunteers
Reporting (15%)
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely case records of client contacts and referrals
  • Assist in keeping community referrals and resources information updated
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of work hours and schedule per agency standards
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of mileage and expenses per agency standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Social Work or related field that includes a supervised practicum experience
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
  • Establish and maintain relationships
  • Capacity to work with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and stalking
  • Read analyze and interpret policies and procedures
  • Problem solving skills
  • Clear, effective communications skills
  • Must be bilingual in English and Haitian Creole, Hakha-Chin, or Spanish
