Corporate Compensation & HRIS Manager
Location: Novi, Michigan
Reports to: Vice President - Human Resources & CFO
Optalis Healthcare & Rehabilitation is seeking an experienced Corporate Compensation & HRIS Manager (proficient in Payroll) to join our team. This role is integral in managing payroll for our facilities across Michigan and Ohio. The Corporate Compensation & HRIS Manager will oversee compliance with state and federal regulations, ensure the accuracy of payroll processes, manage the HRIS system, and provide strategic support to facility HR/Payroll departments. This is not an entry-level position, and candidates must have significant experience in payroll management, system build out specifically within healthcare, and preferably with Paycor.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Management
  • Serve as the corporate payroll expert, managing payroll processes for all Michigan and Ohio locations.
  • Audit payroll submissions from all locations to ensure accuracy and compliance prior to processing.
  • Establish and maintain payroll best practices, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to provide payroll reports that support budget management and financial planning.
  • Oversee Paycor settings, access levels, and system updates, ensuring the HRIS system functions optimally.
  • Mentor and lead payroll specialists, ensuring efficiency and accuracy across locations.
  • Work closely with Operations to help bring down payroll.
401(k) Administration
  • Manage the administration of 401(k) plans, including enrollments, withdrawals, and audits.
  • Ensure the integrity of EDI feeds and accuracy of benefit-related payroll deductions.
  • Lead the annual open enrollment process, working closely with facility HR teams.
HRIS Management
  • Oversee the HRIS system, ensuring employee data accuracy, system integrity, and compliance with tax laws.
  • Lead system implementations, upgrades, and integrations during mergers and acquisitions.
  • Ensure data security and confidentiality, complying with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular HRIS audits to maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records.
Compliance and Process Improvement
  • Maintain knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and ensure all payroll and benefits practices comply with applicable laws.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and vendors to ensure compliance and resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Drive continuous process improvements, identifying inefficiencies and implementing effective solutions.
Special Initiatives
  • Lead special projects, such as mergers and acquisitions, ensuring smooth transitions to Optalis services and systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with market trends and regulatory changes, updating payroll and benefits processes accordingly.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of TEN (10) years of experience in payroll management, preferably within the healthcare industry.
    • Proficiency with Paycor or a similar HRIS/Payroll system is strongly preferred.
    • Proven experience managing payroll across multiple locations and states.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of payroll and benefits processes, including 401(k) administration and self-insured benefit plans.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal wage & hour regulations, tax compliance, and benefits laws.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
    • Proficient in Excel, Word, and other relevant software tools.
    • Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication and analytical skills.
