Job Description – Senior Business Manager – Operational Excellence
The Operational Excellence Senior Manager is responsible for helping advance Commercial Manufacturing and Supply Chain (CMSC) capabilities in operational excellence both through project execution, coaching and training. They will provide project/portfolio support and lead process optimization projects. This individual will work collaboratively across functions including Quality, Regulatory, Tech Ops, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to develop and deploy standardized tools and best-practices for Risk Management, Knowledge Management, and operational excellence methodology.
This role is hybrid, requires 2-3 days in office in Boston.
Contract role, starts as 6 months contract and has chance to extend, possibly convert.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use defined methodologies (e.g. RCA, Lean/Six Sigma, process mapping, analytics & overall application of DMAIC project framework) to identify and lead teams through strategic process improvement projects.
- Develop project charters, scope, and project plans. Deliver projects on time and within budget, employing strong project management skills.
- Provide program management on a portfolio of Op Ex projects.
- Develop & implement metrics to measure diverse aspects of business operations; leverage business analytics tools to compile reports and dashboards for effective communication of key trends and progress to all levels of the organization.
- Act as a change sponsor to ensure successful implementation of new processes, procedures, systems, etc.
- Lead by example to promote an inclusive, motivating work environment that encourages participation, creativity, learning, and accountability.
- Help build a performance management and continuous improvement culture within the department and project stakeholders.
- Provide updates, reports, and presentations to management, as necessary.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIRED SKILLS
- Be an integral part of growing the Operational Excellence Team and contribute to the team’s scope and direction. Assist with implementation of the Operational Excellence Road Map to transform CMSC to a LEAN organization.
- Self-starter; able to identify opportunities and drive improvements to documentation, procedures, and processes that will enhance efficiency and ensure best practices are implemented.
- Stellar interpersonal, communication and written skills with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment, manage priorities, and maintain timelines for multiple projects.
- Steward the Continuous Improvement portfolio for Operational Excellence and provide Subject Matter Expert support to project leads to help advance their initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and operational execution skills with a high degree of attention to detail and process.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complicated continuous improvement projects with strong, demonstrable results (including change management and communication plans).
- Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, highly-matrixed work environment.
- Advanced knowledge of principles and practice of GMP’s and associated CMC regulatory considerations in a pharmaceutical environment.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS. in an engineering, scientific or allied health field (or equivalent degree) and 7 or more years of relevant work experience in the Biotech or Pharmaceutical Industry, or relevant comparable background. (Masters preferred)
- Lean and/or Six Sigma training (Green Belt needed).
- Strong project and portfolio management skills (PMP preferred).
- Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate skills with data analytics and visualization tools, such as Power BI and Tableau.
Pay Range: $75-$90/HR dependant upon experience
