Submit both a cover letter and resume as one file (because of system limitations).What You'll DoThe Center for Academic Innovation at the University of Michigan is looking for a qualified Financial Specialist to provide financial support to the Center for Academic Innovation (CAI) and the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Innovation (VPAI). In this role as a member of CAI's Operations Team, you will learn and develop in different areas such as financial management and strategy, external revenue tracking, royalty payments, and sponsored projects pre-award and post-award accounting. The Financial Specialist is an important team member, working collaboratively with the university community's expert teams in innovation, research, learning, and teaching on financial and budgeting matters. We also provide expertise around the design and implementation of center-wide organizational processes and along with policy matters related to compliance topics like copyright, accessibility, and Department of Education rules and regulations, and data privacy. We support student engagement through designing co-curricular fellowship opportunities and experiential learning opportunities. We serve as an important liaison for the Center to other University units such as the Office of General Counsel, Information and Technology Services, and the Procurement Office.For more information, please visit our website:Academic Innovation ( accurate guidance regarding financial practices to CAI staff.Support transactional activity in partnership with the University Shared Services Center, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, statement of activities reconciliation, travel and expense, and journal entries.Track and record revenues and expenses for departmental projects.Help prepare quarterly royalty statements and process payments.Initiate purchases of supplies and equipment using proper buying methods, including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and payment requests.Work with Procurement Services on requests for quotes and requests for proposals.Provide sponsored project pre-award and post-award support.Support Chatfield maintenance by opening and closing project grants and shortcodes.Recommend and implement process improvements to support the center's financial structure.Provide backup support to other team members, including Chrome River expense reimbursements, reconciliations, gift processing, and other accounting responsibilities.Process and reconcile Michigan Online credit card payments.Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned.Required Qualifications*Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field.2 or more years of related financial/accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience working with database reporting, database structure, and data management.Commitment to teamwork.Experience performing complex functions in Microsoft Excel.Experience creating and proposing new ways to improve processes and implementing those processes.Demonstrated expertise in managing priorities and meeting the deadlines.Knowledge of and experience working with federal and corporate sponsors.Experience working with Authorize.net or other credit card payment platforms.Demonstrated strong attention to detail to ensure financial data accuracy.Work well in a multicultural and collaborative environment.Modes of WorkPositions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. You can expect to be paid a great compensation package. Factors used to determine salary include education level and experience for the position and internal equity within the unit.
