The Position
The National Women's Law Center seeks a Finance Assistant to support the finance and administrative needs of our growing Finance Department. The Assistant will provide finance support to ensure that our systems and processes follow our policies and procedures as well as provide administrative support to all team members for the planning and execution of relevant meetings and project activities. This is a high responsibility position that provides full administrative support to a highly functioning Finance team.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position of 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities
The Finance Assistant will be a team player and will be able to maintain flexibility in their role. The key responsibilities are as follows:
Administrative:
  • Provides administrative and logistical support for the Vice President for Finance, including proactive calendar management; coordination of calls/emails, travel, and meeting logistics; processing of invoices and expense reports;
  • Coordinates the Finance team meetings and schedules internal and external meetings;
  • Provides meeting support as needed, including assistance with preparing and circulating written materials and agendas, taking notes, and engaging in follow-up as needed;
  • Maintains the department calendar and serves as team lead in project management tool, Asana;
  • Assists in training new NWLC staff during finance orientations, ongoing brown bag and refresher training and help with the organization and tracking of finance team professional development training;
  • Assist the team in tracking compliance, month-end and year-end closes and reporting requirements, along with internal and external deadlines;
  • Responds to organizational inquiries and general requests for information from internal and external stakeholders;
  • Engages in proofreading, formatting, information gathering, filing, and other administrative tasks as needed across the finance department;
  • Maintains team supplies, as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Finance:
  • Assist in maintaining records and updates related to fixed assets;
  • Work with the development team to track and update in-kind pro-bono services for the financial statement audit;
  • Assist with cash receipts processing, remote deposits, accounts payable tasks (back-up);
  • Provide support to the Finance team as needed;
  • Other finance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The candidate must possess:
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete work independently and with discretion when dealing with confidential information regarding the Center's business and sensitive information;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to be a self-starter with an eye for detail, flexibility, and good judgment as well as the ability to learn quickly and handle multiple, concurrent tasks and assignments in an effective manner;
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, collaborative, diverse, and inclusive team setting, remaining flexible, resourceful, and proactive;
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience working on gender and racial equity and centering communities of color in their approach to work.
Additional preferred skills and knowledge:
  • Experience in an administrative capacity for a senior executive, preferably at a non-profit organization or related field;
  • Experience working in accounting systems, preferred;
  • Work experience within a law firm, major company, leading nonprofit, or government agency.

Key Relationships
The Assistant will report directly to the Vice President for Finance and will provide aspects of administrative support to the Finance team.
Classification
NWLC recognizes a staff bargaining unit, NWLC United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in NWLC's bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.
Compensation and Benefits
A salary within the range of $60,307-72,615 will be provided to the successful candidate with 0-10+ years of experience directly relevant to this role, consistent with the National Women's Law Center's compensation framework. The successful candidate's salary within this range will be determined by the number years of relevant experience they bring to the role.
The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package, and four weeks of annual vacation.
NWLC is a non-profit organization whose headquarters and staff are based in Washington, D.C. at our new office at 1350 Eye Street N.W. This role is based in D.C. and will be eligible for some telework while also being expected to work in person on a regular basis. The successful candidate will need to live in or relocate to the DMV (broadly defined as DC, Maryland, or Virigina).
The first 90 days of employment will be considered a probationary period.
