Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant Certified/Registered will support the providers in delivering quality health care to ambulatory patients and perform a variety of related tasks to promote continuity of care.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS H.S. Diploma/GED CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) From the following certification bodies: National Health Career Association (NHA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health (AAH) upon hire or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) From the following certification bodies: American Medical Technologists (AMT) or The American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA). upon hire.
Essential Functions:
-Prepares for patient visit by performing chart preparation. Manages patient flow, including preparing rooms, patients in accordance with Advocate Medical Group (AMG) policies and procedures and rooming standards.
-Performs tests/procedures as ordered. Maintains test tracking log, communicating test results per policy. Identifies and communicates abnormal or delayed test results to provider.
-Responsible for accurate specimen collection including patient identification and labeling based on laboratory collection procedures. Accurately performs and maintains practice site quality control logs in accordance with standards for maintaining CLIA certification.
-Administers medications as ordered by provider including documentation. Communicates with pharmacies to refill medication per approved protocol.
-Anticipates the need for and completes all documentation necessary to ensure quality care including chief complaint, vital signs, immunizations/medications, history, procedures and messages.
-Distributes patient education and discharge instructions per provider direction. Direct patient questions regarding education to provider.
-Assists patients in obtaining additional services ordered by the physician prior to leaving the office as part of discharge planning. Communicates with other providers to ensure continuity of care. Documents all patient communication in the medical record.
-Assures appropriate flow sheets and charts are available at time of patient visit. Accurate data is obtained and documented. Assists the physician in maintaining registries. Communicates to provider any outstanding data, tests or measures required for Clinical Integration.
-Creates and maintains an environment that is patient centered as evidenced by availability of same day appointments, future appointments and referrals made.
-Responsive to the needs and concern of patients, associates and providers and works closely to resolve issues with involved parties. Participates in activities to evaluate and improve processes that will contribute to patient satisfaction, associate and provider engagement.
-Assures that the medical record and all relevant diagnostic reports are available at the start of the visit.
-Obtains medical record release of information in accordance with HIPAA policy policies and procedures. Maintains medical record filing by scanning or re-filing of charts. Disposes of papers containing patient identifiable information according to policy. Participates in medical record audits and indicator development.
-Complies with established infection control, OSHA safety standards and accrediting organization regulations.
-Collaborates with provider and billing department to accurately code and capture charges.

Stocking supplies and cleaning rooms.
