Texas Medical Center's Center for Device Innovation ( ) is seeking a skilled and versatile Machinist to join our team to operate CNC and manual machining along with additive manufacturing equipment while assisting in maintaining a makerspace tailored for medical device prototyping. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, who is willing to learn and will have a passion for innovation, a strong technical background, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC and manual machining equipment to fabricate precise prototypes according to project specifications.
  • Collaborate with CDI clients to understand project requirements and provide technical expertise during the prototyping process.
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on machinery and tools to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Assist team members on equipment operation, safety protocols, and best practices in prototyping. Manage inventory of materials and consumables necessary for prototyping activities, ensuring adequate supplies are available.
  • Contribute to the cleanliness and organization of the makerspace to create a safe and conducive working environment for all users.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and advancements in prototyping techniques, suggesting innovative solutions to enhance project outcomes.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while operating machinery and handling hazardous materials.
  • Maintain inventory of machine shop supplies, tools, and materials.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education or certification in machining or manufacturing preferred.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience operating CNC and manual machining equipment as well as additive manufacturing systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for programming prototypes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with some supervision.
  • Prior experience in a makerspace or fabrication laboratory is desirable.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining various prototyping equipment such as 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, etc.
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills to address equipment malfunctions and process challenges.
