Job Summary: The Director - Small Business Banking Sales is responsible for the direct management and coaching of a team of 10-20 phone-based Small Business Banking Consultants and Relationship Specialists across multiple geographic locations. This role focuses on new business development, credit quality, and risk management within our existing footprint, targeting commercial customers with revenues from six figures to multi-millions and loan sizes up to $5mm. The Director partners with Consumer Banking Leadership to leverage the Retail Branch Platform and referrals to expand lending and deposit opportunities. Additionally, this role is instrumental in enhancing business optimization, efficiency, and credit automation tools, ensuring strong credit quality thresholds are met.

Pay Range: $140,622 - $186,324 - $232,026

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Hires, trains, and manages a staff of Small Business Banking Consultants.
  2. Ensures all client engagement, advice, and sales activities align with Flagstar's mission and values through training, coaching, and call monitoring.
  3. Manages and drives sales performance of the Small Business Banking Consultant staff, ensuring achievement of goals across multiple product categories, client retention, and revenue growth.
  4. Monitors performance reporting to ensure balanced performance across objectives.
  5. Facilitates weekly sales activities, manages pipeline, and holds staff accountable for commitments.
  6. Develops and delivers custom solutions to meet the retail banking needs of clients' owners/management/associates.
  7. Resolves escalated issues and complex relationships/transactions.
  8. Leads the team through ECC (Energizing Client Conversations) to ensure proper implementation and documentation.
  9. Responsible for talent management functions including employment, performance evaluations, staff development, and compliance adherence.
  10. Performs special projects and additional duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  1. Education: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) in business, finance, or related field.
  2. Experience: 10 years in business banking/commercial/small business lending, including 7 years of sales/client management with small business clients and 5 years in sales performance management in financial services.
  3. Expert-level understanding of business financial management and the cash flow cycle.
  4. In-depth knowledge of business banking sales process and financial statements as used in credit applications.
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage and coach phone-based sales teams.
  6. Working knowledge of and experience with SBA programs preferred.
  7. Some travel required.
  8. Physical demands include moderate physical exertion and stamina.
