Job Requirements / Description

An opportunity to join one of Perth’s leading urban planning and design firms in an environment that supports you to exceed your potential.

We are currently recruiting for a Consultant level town planner to join our private consultancy, Taylor Burrell Barnett.

As a town planner at Taylor Burrell Barnett, you will be provided with the opportunity to take your career to the next level, working directly with our clients on a diverse range of projects. You’ll be collaborating with a team of imaginative and pioneering planning and design experts, working towards delivering inspired environments where communities prosper and thrive.

About the role, the responsibilities and experience required:

Aside from the opportunity to work with public and private sector clients on exciting projects like masterplanning communities to support future growth, working on development approvals for new apartments, or creating planning strategies, we offer you the ability to define your own career direction.

We provide you with the diversity of work and projects to help you work out where your passion for planning lies. You’ll be motivated by learning about our past legacy projects and driven by the possibility of creating a future legacy in WA.

The work includes statutory and strategic planning tasks and supporting urban design projects, community and stakeholder engagement, placemaking and more. You’ll have the opportunity to build your own client relationships as well as work closely with co-consultants across a range of private development sectors and work with local and state government departments.

From preparing due diligence, to reviewing policies and schemes, to drafting reports and applications, every day looks different when you work with us. We also support and encourage our planners to grow their presentation skills to diverse audiences including government assessment panels, councils and committees and client presentations.

We take a team-based approach to every project, from Project Directors; to drafting and graphic design, we support our teams to create exceptional outcomes for our clients.

To be considered for this role you should have tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning, and ideally be able to demonstrate some relevant experience in areas including:

  • Planning support tasks, including research and literature reviews, collating information, drafting correspondence and reports;
  • Assisting project leads to prepare, lodge, monitor and follow up various planning documents including Subdivision and Development Applications, Local Development Plans, Structure Plans and Precinct Plans;
  • Reviewing updated policies and guidelines associated with preparation of planning advice;
  • Undertaking planning due diligence investigations and, under the guidance and supervision of senior planning staff, preparing memorandums which summarise outcomes;
  • Liaising with co-consultants, project managers, government agencies and clients;
  • Arranging project meetings, preparing agendas and meeting minutes; and
  • Applying basic knowledge of the State and Local Government Planning Framework to a range of planning tasks.

Most importantly, you should be excited by the prospect of working in a highly collaborative environment, where delivering exceptional client experiences is highly valued.

What we offer:

We take a proactive approach to your professional development, and our diverse and industry-renowned leadership team are committed to mentoring the next generation of leaders. With us, you will have access to continuous learning opportunities via our ‘Culture of Learning’ program along with a dedicated professional development plan and budget to spend in a way that best supports your career growth.
