Job Summary:

The Associate Director is a .30-.50 FTE position that reports to the Director of the Colorado Health Education Center (COAHEC) and will serve as a member of the COAHEC's leadership team and faculty, working collaboratively with all faculty and staff. The COAHEC AD will work on programming, specifically taking over the AHEC Scholars Program as its manager and coordinator. They will represent the Center's program to internal and external parties, building partnerships and assisting COAHEC to meet its grant deliverables in response to heath disparity in Colorado.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with COAHEC's faculty, staff, and COAHEC's 6 regional Executive Directors and community partners to promote the COAHEC's vision, mission, values, and grant goals aligned with the HRSA triple aim of diversity of the healthcare workforce, the equitable distribution of this diverse workforce, and practice transformation.
  • Provide coordination of the COAHEC National Underserved Scholars (COAHEC NU, the graduate arm of AHEC Scholars) CU SOM elective to include Oasis management of grades and assisting in providing vision and resources to its curriculum.
  • Providing management of the AHEC Scholars allied health programming, leading meetings, providing vision, keeping the AHEC Scholars Handbook up to date, and maintaining HRSA mandates for AHEC Scholars therein.
  • Working with the COAHEC Evaluator on data collection and analysis for COAHEC NUS.
  • Identify new partnerships with government, industry, healthcare organizations, nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and other communities to provide new resources and to establish new collaborations.
  • Monitor grant proposal activity, understand the COAHEC pipelines, and advocate for strategic changes.
  • Develop metrics to assess research outcomes, effectiveness, and community impact.
  • Problem-solve efficiencies to grow the grant portfolio and sustain community-engaged research initiatives.
  • Assist with grant development and writing including the HRSA AHEC 5-year cyclical model grant.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 20 hours per week with hours on campus to include Tuesday mornings until noon hours on either Wednesday or Thursday of each week, and as needed for in-person meetings. The office is located on the fifth floor of Education 2 North on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Must be a board-certified MD,
  • Must have a current faculty position at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus or ability to obtain upon hire a faculty position at the AMC at the Senior Instructor level or above.
  • Demonstrated writing skills at the graduate level. Candidate must submit an ad hoc writing assessment at the time of the first interview with a prompt provided by COAHEC at that time.
  • Demonstrated record of securing external/extramural funding, ideally from federal agencies (e.g., National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Department of Defense) or national foundations (e.g., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborations and coordinate initiatives among faculty, academic, administrative, community constituents, and diverse stakeholders.
  • Management/administrative experience leading teams, managing a budget, and supervising professional staff; and demonstrated success leading educational and research initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of open, transparent communications.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: health equity, research, advocacy, program development, grant writing, and community engagement.
  • Experience addressing rural health disparities and engaging with rural and frontier communities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution as well as with external partners and community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to address healthcare disparity and authentic community partnership therein.
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data to inform decisions and measure community impact.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to research and education at all levels.
  • Knowledge of and experience with indirect costs, effort reporting, responsible conduct of research, federal and state grant regulations, and human subjects research compliance.
  • Ability to educate, mentor, and support faculty, staff, and students at all levels of education, particularly those who identify as URM.
  • Ability to work occasional off hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Knowledge of and experience with grant procurement, writing, development, and management.
  • Knowledge of and experience with curriculum development and deployment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with direct management of faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of and experience with teaching small or large groups of learners.
  • Knowledge of and experience with conducting high-level meetings with partners, collaborators, and other director-level or higher workers.
  • Advanced experience working with internal and external entities in the management and administration of sponsored projects.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$60,000 - $115,000 salary support annually based on 30-50% FTE of current salary (will be adjusted based on FTE up to the NIH salary cap of $221,900 (2024 NIH Salary cap).

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
