Description:
Position Summary: Teaching students to take care of their minds and their bodies builds a foundation that makes all other learning possible. The Office of School Wellness Programs (OSWP) guides schools in teaching students what they need to know to make healthy, informed choices now and throughout their lives, and for school communities to build strong structures and rich environments in which physical and health education thrive.
Recognizing that every student has a right to quality PE and Health Education instruction, as well as opportunities to engage in wellness-related activities inside and outside of the classroom, OSWP believes:

The Director of Equitable Program Implementation, as part of the Implementation team, will define, develop, and oversee short and long-term wellness programs and the staff who manage these programs. The Director will oversee a team charged with developing and implementing robust, sustainable, and equitable wellness programs. Such programs may include School Wellness Councils, Move-to-Improve, and CHAMPS after school sports. The Director will supervise staff to build and implement equitable programs related to physical activity, school nutrition, mental health, school environment, and community health. They will lead their team to address programmatic disparities to ensure all schools and districts can build a strong wellness community around offering student's meaningful opportunities to practice the skills and internalize the messages they learn in Physical Education (PE) and Health Education classes. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Directors of Implementation and directors of other OSWP teams, district offices, school communities, and local partners
Responsibilities
Management and Supervision
- Oversees OSWP wellness programs, (potential to include CHAMPS, Move-to-Improve, School Wellness Councils) and supervise a team managing the work, including communication to schools, program development, implementation, follow-up, assessment, and reporting.
- Grows the individual and collective leadership of direct reports through developmental conversations and reciprocal feedback process.
- Guides and motivates the team to improve quality, and promote sustainability and reach of programs that build champions and wellness communities in schools by:
- establishing formal and informal channels of communication with program and implementation staff to guide timely decisions and facilitate problem-solving; and
- analyzing and planning to strengthen workstreams aligned with citywide wellness policies,
- Develops and manages deliverables for new and existing projects focused on:
- integrating Office programs and resources across teams to maximize support for schools;
- building citywide capacity of schools to implement physical activity and wellness programs;
- promote the NYC DOE Wellness Policy and DOE efforts to address health risk disparities.
Equitable Program Management
- Uses their demonstrated commitment to and understanding of how to use equity and equitable practices to inform programmatic design and implementation to support the team in making decisions that prioritize the equitable distribution of programmatic resources to schools that are most underserved.
- Creates and formalizes documents and systems for implementing and tracking wellness programs to ensure that goals and objectives are met; coordinating with Project Management and Administration team as needed.
- Collaborates internally to develop and implement quantitative and qualitative data collection tools to support project deliverables, and support in the development, improvement, usability, and maintenance of existing applications in our Wellness Hub.
- Collaborates with the Events and Professional Learning team to coordinate training and events citywide.
- Develop and deliver progress reports on initiative and program benchmarks and best practices.
- Creates clear feedback mechanisms to share progress and lessons learned about school-level program implementation back to stakeholders including OSWP teams, other DOE offices, schools, districts, and partners.
- Uses data and analytics to evaluate current program practices and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and accountability grounded in equity principles.
- Researches and uses equity-based tools and resources including, but not limited, to equity data, economic need index, etc. to make informed data-driven programmatic decisions and policy recommendations that will equitably enhance schools’ and districts’ support for student wellness.
- Conducts assessments and debriefs that identify gaps in program implementation that need to be addressed to support increased equity and equitable program resource allocation and management.
Strategic Planning
- Supports the Senior Director of Implementation and Directors of Implementation with program-related vision and strategic planning, with broad authority to propose and implement programmatic initiatives that meet the needs of schools and districts, especially those that direct necessary resources to schools and districts that are most underserved.
- Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Implementation, and with the help of the team, defines the Office’s programmatic products and develop a strategic plan for coordinated and equitable delivery to and implementation of these programs in schools.
- Coordinates with OSWP leadership, especially on the Implementation team, to ensure wellness programs are planned, developed, and implemented in alignment with OSWP vision and mission (i.e., underscored by the citywide wellness policy, build capacity among schools to promote student wellness, etc.).
- Supports the internal growth of OSWP’s equity work by serving as an advisor to OSWP’s Advancing Equity Resource Group (AERG).
- Regularly engages in Professional Learning opportunities to deepen capacity to support office teams and leadership in addressing equity disparities in program.
Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
- A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational psychology, educational leadership, public administration, public policy, social work, or a closely related field, and two years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible professional experience in education administration, in such areas as: portfolio planning, educational grants/funding, student enrollment, assessment and accountability, youth development, special education, early childhood, program evaluation, policy research, college and career readiness, health and wellness, immunization, diagnostic and treatment services for parents and children, out of school programs, career and occupational education, curriculum development, evaluation and testing, educational planning, and educational statistics, or a related field, at least 18 months of this experience must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity in education administration; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of satisfactory, fulltime progressively responsible professional experience, in one or more of the areas as described in “1 ” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory, full time professional experience, in one or more of the areas as described in “1 ” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to “1 ”, “2 ”, or “3 ” above. Undergraduate education above the high school level may be substituted for professional experience, in the areas described in “1” above, at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university for each year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years. Graduate education in areas other than those mentioned above, may be substituted for the professional experience, at the rate of 15 graduate semester credits from an accredited college or university, for 6 months of experience, up to a maximum of 1 year of professional experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent and 18 months of experience in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity in education administration as described above.

Salary : $126,054 - $130,151
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
