LABORATORY TECHNICIAN-Rotating Shifts-Port Newark, NJ

We are currently seeking to hire a Laboratory Technician for our Port Newark, NJ manufacturing facility.
The Laboratory Technician is involved with the successful daily operation of the laboratory and supports plant operations. This ensures the superior quality of our product and a safety-first work environment. This requires collaboration and communication with plant managers, operators, supervisors, quality control technicians and others. Work is documented thru entries onto sheets, books, and electronic ITS system specified for each department. Lab employees shall set an example, by demonstrating a commitment to quality, and customer needs at all times.
This position works 12 hour rotating shifts .
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Focus on sample preparation for delivery to customers and outside laboratories.
  • Perform quality tests and document results (including, but not limited to: Color, moisture, FAC, SFC, PV, FFA, nickel, IV, ICP metals, Drop Point) on oils and input data in a timely manner.
  • Enter COAs into the system for bulk and packaging.
  • Communicate results to plant operators, supervisors, CI and others.
  • Perform all tests needed on special blends for R&D
  • Perform and document tests ran with the Perkin Elmer FTIR
  • Prepare solutions for tests.
  • Calibrate instruments.
  • Cross train in Quality Tech roles and responsibilities
  • Conduct plant food safety inspections.
  • Participate in audits (ISO 9001, BRC, customer audits)
  • Review COAs from suppliers for incoming oils and ensure they meet our specifications.
  • Train new employees in all aspects of the job
  • Assist production in troubleshooting quality issues.
  • Enter and report the monthly and yearly reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology or related field
  • 1-3 years laboratory experience, preferably in a food, drug or chemical analytical laboratory
  • Proficient in MS Office and use of lab equipment
  • Math and computation ability
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the US, now and in the future, without sponsorship.
