Role Description  

Title:                            Benefits Specialist   
Reports to:                    Benefits & Compensation Manager  
Classification:               Full Time Salaried, Exempt   
Starting Pay:                 $73,000/year
  
Position Summary. As a Benefits Specialist, you will ensure our employees are familiar with and fully able to use Jubilee’s robust benefits package by serving as the primary daily contact with staff. You will troubleshoot, assist, and provide excellent, responsive customer care. You will also handle detailed daily administration of voluntary and required benefits.
  
Responsibilities. 

  • Administer employee benefits programs and provide excellent customer service to employees.
  • Support annual open enrollment and promote benefits throughout the employee lifecycle.  
  • Ensure excellence, accuracy, and readability of all communications and materials related to employee benefits.
  • Suggest innovations to improve benefits administration and employee satisfaction.
  • Process requests and receipts for wellness, tuition reimbursement, staff development funds, payroll advances, vacation reimbursement, referral bonuses, and other benefits. 
  • Assist employees with questions and issues related to benefits, leave scenarios, worker’s compensation claims, etc.
  • Submit responses and documentation for unemployment hearings, workers compensation, and similar administrative matters.   
  • Notify employees of vacation and sabbatical eligibility and track same.
  • Work with Onboarding Specialist to collect and verify employee documents such as driver’s license and vaccination information.
  • Run Medicaid Exclusions checks for employees and contractors monthly.   
  • Crosstrain to assist with other HR functions such as hiring, onboarding, training and events management.    
  • File any benefits-related paperwork.
     
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications.  

  • Associate’s degree in business, human resource management, or related discipline preferred.
  • 1-2+ years' experience in a directly related field, such as human resources, benefits administration, etc.  
  • Familiarity with commonly offered workplace benefits.
  • Experience with compliance issues related to the role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Impeccable follow-through and customer service.  
  • Excellent “people” skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.   
  • Very strong technology skills to effectively use Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and timekeeping systems.
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, results-driven environment.  
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgement and take initiative and make recommendations in resolving problems. 
  • True passion for the mission of the organization; desire to work with and learn from people who have intellectual and development disabilities.   
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is always a plus.


Compensation. This position has a fixed starting pay of $73,000 per year. All staff have opportunities for pay increases and promotions.
 

Benefits. Benefits include 4 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks  of sick leave, health/dental/life/disability insurance for the employee and eligible dependents, 5 percent retirement match after one year, 10 paid holidays, $1,000 student loan assistance or tuition reimbursement, $1,000 annual staff development fund, paid training opportunities, Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for medical and dependent care expenses, periodic reimbursement of vacation expenses, and more. Depending on personal situations, additional paid leave may apply, such as parental leave, bereavement leave, and jury service. Eligibility for some benefits starts at 20 or 30 hours of work per week.
All employees must be fully vaccinated for Covid before starting work.  
Jubilee is currently operating a hybrid workplace model for most administrative roles. Candidates should live within commuting distance of our Kensington, Maryland, office.
