Job Summary

Involves the establishment and supervision of processes (e.g., performance improvement, clinical documentation, etc.) to achieve the optimal degree of excellence in the services rendered to every patient. Evaluation of practice operates within the parameters of patient outcome, cost-benefit in care provision, and patient access to the health care delivery system. Provides for internal strategic planning efforts and implementing continuous quality improvement programs.

Promotes excellence in nursing clinical practice and outcomes through strategic leadership and clinical expertise. Advances the skills of frontline nurses and operational leaders in leveraging data to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Coordinates data-driven initiatives and programs, collaborating with nursing leadership to identify, prioritize, and implement strategic plans related to nursing practice, processes, and outcomes. Involves project management and proposal/implementation of evidence-based or innovative tools, processes, and hands-on professional development programs. Actively participates in committees. Empowers nurses in data-driven decision-making by designing, implementing, and refining systems and processes, analyzing and presenting data, and engaging with benchmarking systems. Meets the nursing enterprise's diverse requirements through expertise in clinical practice, program management, professional development programming, cross-functional team coordination, improvement methods and strategic planning.

The Clinical Quality Specialist will:

  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to identify, prioritize, and implement strategic plans for enhancing nursing practices, processes, and clinical outcomes.
  • Establish professional development programs to advance the skills of frontline nurses and operational leaders in leveraging data to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Lead projects, participate in committees, and implement evidence-based or innovative tools, processes and training/communication programs to empower nurses in data-driven decision making.
  • Design, implement, and refine systems and processes that support achievement of excellence in nursing process and outcomes.
  • Collect, analyze, synthesize, and present data to stakeholders; engage with benchmarking systems to synthesize and share results.
  • Achieve process and outcome goals through impactful changes.

As a recognized quality data analysis and/or improvement (QI) expert, applies comprehensive knowledge of professional concepts and industry practices to lead the most complex projects of large size and scope that have critical impact throughout the medical center and/or organization.

Required Qualifications

Expert knowledge of the methods, concepts, systems, and operational issues in clinical QI. Expert knowledge of QI models, tools, and techniques, including collection, abstraction, validation, analysis, reporting of data, and the development and application of performance and benchmark indicators. Highly developed skills and expertise in project management, with demonstrated ability to initiate projects and lead teams, prioritize tasks, and direct projects successfully from inception to completion on task and on schedule. Expert ability to use highly-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly diagnose and resolve extremely complex issues, and to develop and implement timely and effective solutions. Highly developed interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with all levels of clinical and technical staff and representatives of external regulatory agencies, and for mentoring and training lower-level QI staff. Highly developed ability to effectively convey complex clinical, technical, and educational information both verbally and in writing, and to produce high quality reports, documentation, and presentations. Expert knowledge of various administrative and business software packages, and of the specialized applications for quality data management. Expert ability to collaborate effectively with staff, management, and clinicians at all levels and across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Nursing Practice or Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing
  • National certificate(s) within area of specialty
  • Certification CPHQ, PPM, PMP, Lean, 6-Sigma

License/Certification

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing combined with equivalent experience
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
