General Overview

Under the direction of the EMPI Data Integrity Manager, the EMPI Operations Data Analyst I is responsible for maintaining patient identity by utilizing analytical and investigational skills and multiple tools and systems to piece together the patient identity story and independently determine, coordinate, and execute actions needed to remediate identity discrepancies. Responsibilities also include support for integration and data sharing models to support coordination of care. Exceptional management of patient identity data integrity in the Master Patient Index (MPI). The MPI databases contain over 13 million patient records and serve as the underpinning of care delivery, data exchange, analytics, and critical business and clinical processes for MGB.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reviewing and resolving data integrity issues utilizing potential duplicate and overlay reports and work queues. Critical thinking is required to identify and resolve the integrity of the patient record. Merge and Overlay resolution decisions are made utilizing data integrity tools, such as, but not limited to, Lexis Nexis, audit trail and analysis of the patient record in the MPI.
  • Develops a thorough knowledge of problem solving and investigational skills to recognize patient identity discrepancies. Uses independent judgement to determine, coordinate, and execute appropriate steps to remediate the discrepancies.
  • Communicates and educates end users, patients, or other consumers contributing to the MPI to resolve data integrity issues as needed.
  • Analyzes and identifies root causes of data discrepancies and/or technical issues impacting data integrity. Shares knowledge of new or developing trends or issues with EMPI management and team members for problem solving and process development activities.
  • Supports external integration and data sharing such as, Web Portal, MaHiway and Epic Care Everywhere.
  • Follows data integrity policies and procedures to maintain the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the EMPI and Epic MPI databases. Ensures compliance of established MGB policies and procedures by end users related to data integrity of the patient record.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in chart correction activities as appropriate.
  • Develops a working knowledge of the functionality of the NextM Application, the Epic MPI application, CareEverywhere and all integration models.
  • Functions as an individual contributor and as a team player within the EMPI Data Integrity Department. Interacts positively and effectively within the team as well as cross team collaboration with other teams both within MGB and MGB affiliates.
  • Reports work progress proactively to upper management on any denoting issues and/or problems in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of the sensitivity and confidentiality of the data and the ability to handle it with discretion.
  • Encourages positive interactions and maintains a high level of customer satisfaction. Maintains open communications via e-mails, phone calls, and in-person discussions with all customers. Provides quality customer service. Serves as an exemplary representative of Mass General Brigham Health Information Department. Ongoing communication, feedback, and follow-through with customers and peers is essential.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Care Administration, Human Services Administration, business or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • 1+ years related experience in a Health Care setting preferred.
  • Basic medical terminology preferred.
