Job Description

SUMMARY

T.Y. Lin International is seeking a qualified Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience in planning and designing water and wastewater utilities projects. This new position will have a wide range of responsibilities providing engineering design services for internal and external clients. Technical aspects include utilities planning studies; infrastructure assessments; preparing plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E); and construction administration. The candidate should have a working knowledge of pipeline hydraulics, conveyance systems and pump stations, pipeline materials, construction methods, and design criteria used by public agencies.

The individual will assist in the technical management of utilities design deliverables on a variety of water/wastewater, road/highway, bridge, rail/transit, airport and other infrastructure projects. Also will assist in client relations, and implement company policies and procedures, including quality control and quality assurance for projects. May assist with business development, staff direct supervision, and construction and/or field services for utilities projects and programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist the Water/Wastewater Manager in the execution of projects at the direction of the manager and other senior staff.
  2. Conduct and assist in utilities planning studies and infrastructure/system assessments.
  3. Coordinate and assist with internal and external clients in development and execution of utilities projects.
  4. Visit job sites and perform field investigations.
  5. Research utilities records and search as-built drawings of public and private utilities.
  6. Prepare technical reports, letters and memos for development of utilities projects.
  7. Assist in preparing scope of work, budget, schedule, and project reporting.
  8. Prepare plans and specifications, and other work product deliverables.
  9. Perform quantities take-offs, and prepare engineer’s construction cost estimates.
  10. Apply the firm’s production and design standards for work product deliverables.
  11. Apply the firm’s Quality Control/Quality Assurance policy and procedures for work product deliverables.
  12. Assist in marketing efforts, proposal writing, and presentations.
  13. Supervise staff’s and subconsultants’ work efforts of production.
  14. Perform construction administration duties on projects relative to utilities.

Qualifications

Requires Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.

An Engineer with 5 to 10 years' current experience in planning and designing water and wastewater utilities projects. A working knowledge and level of competency of pipeline hydraulics; conveyance systems (required) and pump stations (preferred); pipeline materials; construction methods and installation technologies; design criteria used by public agencies; and overall understanding of standard industry practice.

A current PE license in California, or a license in another state with a commitment to achieve California licensure within three years of hire.

Proficiency using drafting software (AutoCAD is required, AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microstation are preferred).

Proficiency using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel required. Proficiency using Microsoft Project and Access preferred.

Proficiency in written and verbal communications skills.

OTHER JOB DESCRIPTIVE QUALITIES:

Occasional travel to other company offices and job sites located throughout California, Nevada, Arizona and elsewhere in the U.S. Modes of travel include automobile, train and airplane.
