Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join our team in our Fort Worth, TX office. Depending on experience we may be open to other Texas office locations including (Frisco, Austin, Plano, and San Antonio). Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Become a member of Westwood's transportation service team, working as part of a multidisciplinary design team. As part of our team, you will have an opportunity to shape local and regional infrastructure within the community you live. Our ideal candidate will have 3-7+ years of diverse experience preferably in transportation/roadway design and other civil design. Candidates must have a willingness to perform a variety of tasks supporting various project types and project managers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work as a key member of a transportation/roadway design team under the direction of a Project Engineer/Project Manager. Job duties may include, but are not limited to:

    Work with a team in the preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects of various size and complexity
  • Prepare plan documents and supporting design calculations
  • Prepare detailed construction drawings using MicroStations, OpenRoads Designer, and other software as required
  • Produce high quality work and implement and maintain quality assurance procedures
  • Oversee the technical aspects of various projects
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, support services and sub-consultants
  • Coordinate with government agencies, utility providers or other outside agencies
  • Coordinate with Clients depending on project role
  • Identify applicable codes, standards or other design requirements
  • Prepare technical specifications and cost estimates
  • Perform field reviews and other assessments for use in design
  • Participate in contract bidding, provide limited observation during construction, review submittals and RFIs
  • Represent clients and firm in meetings with governmental agencies
  • Develop and track milestones to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery
  • Make decisions independently in regard to various issues and methods
  • Prioritize and manage own workload
  • Ensures division, regional, and company values, policies and practices are consistently followed
  • Lead by example - display solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism
Required Skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills with team members and clients
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet project deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient in the use of local and national design standards (MUTCD, AASHTO, etc.)
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks
  • Able to pro-actively pursue design solutions
  • Ability to delegate assignments and determine methods and procedures
  • Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual
  • Ability to develop relationships with peers, clients, and public agencies
Required Experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in Texas (or capable of obtaining within 6-12 months)
  • 3-7+ years of progressive related-experience
