PURPOSE OF JOB:

As General Manager, youll oversee the entire dealership, leading a talented team in sales, service, finance, and parts. Youll guide the overall strategy while making sure things run smoothly day-to-day, keeping everything efficient, profitable, and focused on customer satisfaction. Were looking for someone who can see the big picture but also isnt afraid to roll up their sleeves and lead by example, creating a culture of high performance, accountability, and teamwork.

JOB DUTIES:

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive overall dealership growth in sales, service, and customer satisfaction
  • Develop and execute business strategies to achieve financial objectives
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire department managers and staff
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to ensure the dealership remains competitive
  • Ensure compliance with all industry regulations and company policies
  • Implement innovative marketing and sales initiatives to attract and retain customers
  • Qualify for recognition in the following programs (Mark of Excellence, United Companies Seal of Excellence Award).

Leadership and Employee Relations & Selection

  • Actively guide and coach all managers and staff, embracing continuous improvement principles like QES and Lean Six Sigma. Ensure clear communication of company goals, values, and expectations.
  • Anticipate and address organizational, personnel, and facility needs, providing recommendations to the President.
  • Represent the dealership professionally at industry events and factory meetings as needed.
  • Participate in the Quality Improvement Team (QIT) to promote excellence and teamwork across the dealership.
  • Interview and approve management candidates for promotions, focusing on succession planning and employee growth.
  • Ensure ongoing employee development at all levels, with an emphasis on future leadership roles.
  • Involve employees in policy and procedure design using QES principles.

Reporting and Control

  • Review monthly forecasts and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Hold weekly meetings with Department Managers, track action items, and ensure accountability. Distribute meeting minutes for clarity on assignments and planning.
  • Ensure daily staff meetings are held and documented in each department.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for Department Managers using the companys appraisal system.
  • Work with the President to ensure daily tracking of progress toward monthly budgets by Department Managers.
  • Attend monthly financial review meetings.

Management & People Development

  • Build and manage talent to foster a performance-driven culture.
  • Use 1-on-1 meetings and S&A accountability to closely manage employees.
  • Conduct timely performance appraisals and ensure submission of business plan goals for yourself and your team.
  • Ensure team members meet annual training requirements.

General

  • Ensure prompt and regular attendance.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned by Management.
  • Travel as business needs may require.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Personally commit to quality in all aspects of work.
  • Provide World Class Customer Service for internal and external customers.
  • Participate in and promote the established Quality Improvement Process (QIP) for continuous improvement.
  • Participate on teams to research, measure, and correct problems and to strive for process improvement.
  • Communicate and exemplify the Company's Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Values, and Philosophy.
  • Attend at least ten (10) credit hours of training annually to continue development of work-related skills.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree or relevant equivalent experience is minimally required.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of Automobile Dealership Management experience is minimally required.

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies:

  • Must possess a high level of energy and good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess developed leadership skills.
  • Must be able to solve multiple and varied operational problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of customer service excellence and be able to deal effectively with customers in all situations.
  • Must possess and continuously maintain a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
