TITLE: Next Steps Director

Dept/Ministry: Adult Ministries

Supervisor: Engagement Director

Work Hours: Full Time (45 hours, Sunday - Thursday)

This position will provide primary leadership for all aspects of the Next Steps Ministry including Next Steps, The Exploration, Baptism, and Serve. The Next Steps Director position needs to be passionate and proactive in helping attendees take their next step through intentional follow-up and working well with other ministries to ensure appropriate handoffs are made to move people through the Engagement Pathway.

Key Ministry Focus Areas

  • Baptism – Handle initial baptism inquiries, connect people to the POC (pastor on call), post baptism follows up, training for baptizers, etc.
  • Serve – Handle serve inquiries, assign and follow up with individual ministries, volunteer recruitment events, oversee Volunteer Lounge (hospitality), etc.
  • New Here Lunch- Plan, coordinate, and host the monthly New Here Lunch, ensuring a welcoming environment for guests. Recruit and train volunteers to serve food, host tables, and manage event flow. Engage with attendees and encourage participation in Behind the Scenes Tours.
  • Host Behind the Scenes Tour (BTS) - coordinate with other ministries, lead tour, and follow-up.
  • Weekend Next Steps Team - Recruit, train and schedule team for each weekend service and special events.

  • Proactive ownership, innovation, and oversight of all Next Step areas
  • Intentional investment that leads to growth in volunteer leaders
  • Numerical metrics showing traction and movement through the Engagement Pathway.

Leadership Responsibilities:

Meets with volunteers in the ministry to provide support, encouragement, training, accountability and direction in their ministries.

  • Is responsible for establishing key objectives in ministry and implementing strategies for their attainment through the power and direction of the Holy Spirit.
  • Responsible for maintaining a balanced work schedule, keep track of vacation days, sick days, days off, make-up days, personal days etc.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Care for those directly connected to your ministry plus be a part of the Pastor on Call (POC) team.
  • Utilize resources like the Rock RMS database and an administrative assistant.
  • Update ministry skill and knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks.
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or leadership.

  • Spends consistent time in prayer and study of God’s Word.
  • Live a spiritually surrendered life leaning on the Holy Spirit for guidance and direction.

  • Is involved in personal discipleship, either small group or one-on-one.
  • Stays current with ministry trends by listening to podcasts, reading books, periodicals and attending approved conferences.
  • Attends all staff meetings and retreats, as directed.
  • Is available to the congregation before and after services as other duties allow.
  • Maintains flexible working hours as determined by the needs of the ministry.

Character:

  • This individual needs to be a devoted follower of Christ with an ever-deepening relationship with Him.
  • As a leader of Christ’s church, this individual is expected to be of the highest moral and ethical character according to the Biblical standard.

Qualifications

In addition to a commitment to Christ-like character and a passionate call to ministry:

  • Experience in a large, multi-staff church setting.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to execute a ministry plan utilizing volunteer teams and collaborating with staff.
  • Exceptional people skills that seeks to love everyone and contributes to a healthy staff culture.

Accountability

  • This person will report to the Director of Engagement.
  • It is expected that this individual be committed to upholding the beliefs and values of Compass Christian Church, and be loyal to the Senior Pastor, Church Staff and Eldership of Compass Christian Church.
